Fishguard Bay Hotel is a 19th-century property with views of the Pembrokeshire coast and the Irish Sea. It's in the seaside town of Fishguard, the site of the last invasion of Britain; the Battle of Fishguard Cannons, which were used to deter the invading French in 1797, are a 5-minute drive from the hotel.

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park boasts forests, wild flowers, sea bird colonies and hilltop stone fortresses. You can reach it via the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, which passes right by the hotel.

Strumble Head Lighthouse is less than 15 minutes' drive away, while the Blue Lagoon -- the site of a former slate quarry that is now a popular adventure-sport destination -- is 30-minute drive away, as is Castell Henllys, a reconstructed Iron Age hillfort and archaeological site.

The Preseli Hills, where you can stand in the stone circles of Neolithic man and see the Bronze Age burial sites on the Mountain of the Dead, are 35 minutes' drive away. Local legend says that the Tylwyth Teg (fairy folk) will lure any unsuspecting traveller on the hills at night into the underworld.

Pentre Ifan, the site of the largest and best preserved Neolithic tombs in Wales, is 40 minutes' drive away, while Pembroke Castle is 50 minutes' drive away. This 12th-century stronghold is Grade I-listed and sits on the shore of a picturesque millpond.

The restaurant, which overlooks Fishguard Bay, uses locally sourced ingredients and can cater for vegetarians and other dietary requests as required.

This hotel is not plush or 'boutique' but it is a real treasure. Some of the rooms are a little shabby but immaculately clean with amazing views across the bay. The staff are helpful and you couldn't ask for a better location. Visit!!

Fantastic situation and brilliant value for money. The staff were very helpful indeed. This was a deal so can't be too picky and we loved the area!

It was very chilly. We had to ask to have the heating turned on. The food was very poor. Breakfast included tinned musrooms, sliced cheap bread and dreadful coffee. The evening meal came out of the freezer. The whole hotel is run down and shabby. The TV in the room was so ancient, it wasn't configured for modern film layout!

The hotel is a lovely building but does require some updating. The restaurant and bar could do with a bit of background music to help create a bit more atmosphere. The food was dissapointing (bit like school dinners as I rember them) Having said that you can see that the hotel and staff are trying. Would like to go back in a couple of years to see progression.
