“Ideal for walkers and lovers of nature” (The Daily Telegraph) Monchique Resort & Spa offers modern accommodation in a secluded hillside spot overlooking the sea. This “sprawling five-star hotel” housed in a white glass-fronted building “sits among acres of lush green trees” (Daily Mail) in the Algarve’s Serra de Monchique mountain range, a 15-minute walk from the spa town of Caldas de Monchique. The “picturesque hamlet” of Monchique, known for its “fiery medronho, a locally made liqueur” (Lonely Planet) is 15 minutes’ drive away and both Morgado Golf Course and the Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar, an ancient burial site, area 20-minute drive from the hotel. The closest coastal town is Portimao, home to Praia da Rocha, which is 15 minutes’ drive away. Albufeira takes around 35 minutes to reach by car.
Monchique Resort & Spa opens to warm interiors “inspired by the region’s cork, pottery and tile industries” (The Daily Telegraph). There are two outdoor pools, a 24-hour gym and kids’ club, as well as spa offering “athermal circuit, sensorial showers, a natural mineral clay chamber, an aroma grotto, a Himalayan salt wall sauna and an indoor pool” (The Daily Telegraph). There are a variety of seasonal dining options. Plenty of activities are available at the resort and in the surrounding area including cycling, personal training, yoga, meditation and birdwatching.
The hotel’s suites are “clean, modern and spacious” (Daily Mail), with wooden floors and floor-to-ceiling windows. All offer outdoor space (balconies, terraces or patios), plus a living room with a kitchenette, a bedroom and two bathrooms. Higher options come with mountain and coastline views, and coffee machines.
