The Old Mill Inn “offers pure, unadulterated indulgence," says Lonely Planet. Hidden in Humber River valley parkland, the 4-star hotel is a Tudor-style mill house set in beautiful gardens, just 20 minutes by car from downtown Toronto.

The hotel offers a number of excellent dining options. English afternoon tea has been served here overlooking the gardens since 1914 and features the customary cream, jam and scones.

The restaurant itself is popular with locals, and the evening menu (served Wednesdays-Saturdays) specializes in modern European dishes, such as salmon fettuccine, Ontario lamb saddle and calamari.

On Sundays there's a large buffet spread of roast beef, maple-glazed ham, seafood and salads. Live music fans will enjoy the regular jazz nights held at the Home Smith Jazz Bar, accompanied by homely comfort food, such as pulled pork and baby back ribs.

There's also a spa with a sauna and fitness area for massages, facials and oxygen treatments.

Rooms are traditional and have valley views, gas fireplaces and roomy whirlpool baths. Some also have four-poster beds but a restrained use of floral fabrics keeps them fuss-free. Some have four-poster beds, and the suites are roomier, but similarly furnished.

Explore Canada’s cultural capital with adventure-filled activities, eye-catching shows and award-winning restaurants from top street side patios to skyscraper dining rooms.

From the press:
  • "The restaurant is a favorite for Torontonians" -- Lonely Planet
  • "Tennis courts, a spa and easy access to trails and parks make you forget you're in the city" -- Time Out
  • "Gas fireplaces and large whirlpool tubs invite romance, and each room has a view of the wooded banks of the Humber River valley" -- Fodor's

Enjoyed Most: The ambience of this old building is a joy. We enjoyed a delicious dinner in The Terrace Room (which is a bit pricey on top of what our gift giver had already paid for the coupon). Add on our cost for dinner, etc. and we paid $182.35 additional to a voucher which already cost $239. Total $421.35 for one night.
Other Comments: The continental breakfast should include scrambled eggs and bacon. It is included in most other establishments (high end hotels in Niagara-on-the-Lake). Some of the upholstery in the room (211)needs to be cleaned or replaced. You still have to pay a hospitality fee of $12.00 + hst of $1.56 + HST on the room which was $31.07. Awkward re tipping on cont.breakfast. which is included.

Enjoyed Most: Big Band Music in the dining hall. Loved it!
Other Comments: Food could be better in the dining hall....although the service was good in the Hall, the waiter seemed to be disengaged and just did his job. No smile; no welcoming; no engagement!! We did not leave a good tip. Front desk staff was great. Rating is reflective of the dining hall staff.
