Why We Love This Hotel

Overview
“The capital of the Alsace wine region, Colmar looks for all the world as though it has been plucked from the pages of a medieval folk tale. At times the Route des Vins d’Alsace fools you into thinking it’s 1454, and here, in the alley-woven heart of the old town, the illusion is complete. Half-timbered houses in chalk-box colours crowd dark cobblestone lanes and bridge-laced canals, which have most day-trippers wandering around in a daze of neck-craning, photo-snapping, gasp-eliciting wonder” says Lonely Planet.
10 minutes’ drive away from Parc des expositions et des Congrès, the hotel Roi Soleil Prestige de Colmar is about to be a 4-star hotel from January 2019 and provides all required services to feel comfortable during your stay: free wi-fi, a reception with attentive and available members of staff, a 24-hour lounge bar, a meeting room for business travellers, breakfast buffet and above all, cosy rooms, equipped with flat screen, private bathroom, and Nespresso coffee machine.
It takes 15 minutes’ drive to get the Old Colmar, where you can discover Unterlinden Musuem, with exhibitions from prehistory to contemporary period, where the “star attraction is the late-Gothic Rétable d’Issenheim, by painter Mathias Grünewald and sculptor Nicolas de Haguenau” (Lonely Planet). You should also have a walk around Quai de la Poissonnerie to see its charming timbered houses.
Colmar is a good start to explore Alsace region. According to Telegraph: “The evidence of this rich cultural soup is everywhere; in the half-timbered Rhineland architecture; the rich, generously served cuisine; the Germanic lilt of the Alsatian dialect; but no more obviously than in the names of many of the villages – Colmar, Turckheim, Ammerschwihr – and the winemakers themselves – Trimbach, Hugel, Zind-Humbrecht, Josmeyer. They sound German, but many of these families have been making wines on the French side of the Rhine since the 17th century”.
