The Island House Hotel has welcomed families to Lake Huron’s Mackinac Island since 1852. The Victorian hotel overlooks the harbor and is located within the car-free Mackinac State Historic Park. The hotel is less than a 10-minute walk from the ferry dock and Fort Mackinac.
Individually styled rooms and suites have coffee makers, seating areas and free Wi-Fi. Families can upgrade to two-bedroom suites that accommodate as many as eight people with additional bathrooms, kitchenettes, private balconies and whirlpool tubs.
The 1852 Grill Room serves breakfast each morning with the option to eat in the dining room or on the open-air terrace with water views. The lounge reopens at 5 p.m. for dinner and drinks accompanied by piano music. For a casual lunch or dinner, guests can grab a table inside the Ice House Bar & Grill or dine alfresco.
The property features a heated indoor pool, indoor and outdoor hot tubs and a dry sauna. Guests can rent beach cruisers and motorized carts from the bike shop to explore the island or take a picnic to the beach. Nearby attractions include Ryba’s Fudge Shop; Mary’s Bistro Draught House, which serves a large selection of craft beer; and the Wawashkamo Golf Club, first opened in 1898.
