    Why We Love This Hotel

    • Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired architecture
    • Birthplace of the original Tequila Sunrise cocktail and a regular host of many celebrities
    • Cool off by one of five pools, one of which was a favorite of Marilyn Monroe
    • Activities include live music every weekend, seasonal wine tastings, cooking classes for kids, movies and more

    Overview

Rich in history, design and elegance, the Arizona Biltmore, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, first opened in 1929. This luxury hotel attracted many celebrities over the years — Irving Berlin wrote “White Christmas” while sitting poolside, and Marilyn Monroe called the Catalina Pool her favorite. Ronald and Nancy Reagan even honeymooned in one of the suites.

The grounds are dressed with 39 acres of fountains, winding walkways and color-popping flowerbeds, five swimming pools and a full-service spa. We recommend the Aromatherapy massages, which combine soothing oils and heated stones during a full-body treatment. Golf fanatics can also indulge in a round at either of the two 18-hole PGA golf courses housed at the Arizona Biltmore Country Club next door.

Six on-site dining options range from sandwiches and salads at the Cabana Club to wagyu beef tenderloin carpaccio, roasted shallot and duck soup or seared Maine sea scallops from Wright's at the Biltmore. There are also light snacks available in the cafe, as well as afternoon tea service in the lobby (reservations required). Cocktail aficionados won't want to miss the Wright Bar — the birthplace of the Tequila Sunrise.

Guests can wander into a few shops dotted throughout the resort that feature women’s fashion, resort wear, jewelry and souvenirs, or take the shuttle to Biltmore Fashion Park for stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s, Williams-Sonoma and Sephora.

It was a long walk to our room, but the room was lovely. There is a lot of outside construction going on.

Photos completely exaggerated the place. It did not feel luxurious at all. To put this into perspective, we checked out of the very luxurious Wynn Las Vegas in the early hours to get to this resort to find: - The car park a long walk to the room (with luggage) and to my mind impractical in 40 degree heat. - The main pool loud, full of screaming children and blaring live music when we arrived. Hardly luxury or what we expected. - A room dark and boxy, compared to the airy room photographed. I couldn't wait to leave. On checkout, the resort credit hadn't been taken off the bill. Overall a very poor experience. Mindful not to book through Travelzoo again.

Our room wasn't ready when we arrive at 4 pm. After waiting for about 30 minutes, they upgraded us for free to a villa. It was amazing and we very much enjoyed our stay. The staff were all very nice, especially Susan in the Ocatillo Lounge!
