Overview

The rolling Cotswold countryside is easily accessible from The Bull at Burford, which is set among a cluster of traditional stone buildings on the bustling High Street of one of the area's most charming towns. This boutique bolthole is housed in a former coaching inn, complete with courtyard and stables, that dates from the 15th century, and is up the street from the Tudor-era Tolsey Museum, which charts the town's history.

Picturesque Bourton-on-the-Water, known for its elegant bridges, is a 20-minute drive away, while Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is around 25 minutes' drive from the inn. Oxford city centre, with its medieval university buildings, is approximately 40 minutes away by car.

There's a rustic-chic feel to The Bull, with wooden beams, exposed brick walls and a cosy lounge for hunkering down with an ale or a good book. Breakfast is served daily, but the restaurant is currently closed for lunch and dinner.

The AA Hotel Guide 2019 praises the "stylish, attractively presented bedrooms that reflect plenty of charm and character". There are 18 rooms, which range from traditionally furnished double rooms with exposed beams, to grander options kitted out with 4-poster beds and living areas. Every room has free Wi-Fi, a TV, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Dogs can stay for free (please enquire on booking).

An interesting 15th c. Coaching Inn which has recently been refurbished to a high standard. We stayed in the Market Room which was large and with an excellent bath and shower. Bottled water, tea/coffee and biscuits were provided and a range of toiletries were available. Breakfast was included in the.price and there was an excellent range available on the buffet from smoked salmon to bacon, sausages etc and a good variety of pastries. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They are not currently doing dinners but there are plenty of good eating houses locally.

Hotel on Burford high street with excellent eating places just next door. Hotel did not have a restaurant open except for breakfast when we stayed. Staff were great and very helpful. Rooms a bit strange as floor not level (this is a very old hotel) but bed very comfortable and bathroom facilities very good. As our room was up a couple of flights of stairs probably not suitable for the infirmed. Guest lounge was a lovely addition.

Buffet breakfast. It was put out under heatlamps so everything dried out unless you were there early.

Easy to find, welcoming staff, lovely breakfast. We were able to park easily onsite because the hotel wasn't full, but on street parking is plentiful. Only wish the restaurant had been open.
