The rolling Cotswold countryside is easily accessible from The Bull at Burford, which is set among a cluster of traditional stone buildings on the bustling High Street of one of the area's most charming towns. This boutique bolthole is housed in a former coaching inn, complete with courtyard and stables, that dates from the 15th century, and is up the street from the Tudor-era Tolsey Museum, which charts the town's history.

Picturesque Bourton-on-the-Water, known for its elegant bridges, is a 20-minute drive away, while Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is around 25 minutes' drive from the inn. Oxford city centre, with its medieval university buildings, is approximately 40 minutes away by car.

There's a rustic-chic feel to The Bull, with wooden beams, exposed brick walls and a cosy lounge for hunkering down with an ale or a good book. Breakfast is served daily, but the restaurant is currently closed for lunch and dinner.

The AA Hotel Guide 2019 praises the "stylish, attractively presented bedrooms that reflect plenty of charm and character". There are 18 rooms, which range from traditionally furnished double rooms with exposed beams, to grander options kitted out with 4-poster beds and living areas. Every room has free Wi-Fi, a TV, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Dogs can stay for free (please enquire on booking).

Pros: Friendly staff, nice room, very good breakfast. Cons: The car park is quite small so you need to be lucky to get a space and four coffees in the bar costing over £14 is a bit harsh.

The Bull is a nice friendly place to stay, but we discovered Burford to be a very expensive place to visit which will probably deter us from returning which is a shame.

We were upgraded to Bedroom 6 when we arrived, a lovely quirky room with a lot of space and a sloping floor. We found it very comfortable and slept soundly both nights we were there. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The buffet breakfast was amazing, especially the range of items to add to your cereal. Freshly prepared egg to go with the buffet hot dishes was very acceptable. We will happily return, especially as we like the village out of season.

Clean comfortable old inn. Unfortunately the restaurant is not open at present although breakfast was served in the dining room. Advise you to go early for breakfast as it is put on a hot plate and there was not a great deal of cooked food left when we arrived. There was a considerable variety of cold meats and cheeses. as well as cereals and yogurt and fruit.

Very good as usual apart from as there was no restaurant, breakfast was different because it was buffet style with only eggs cooked to order. I understand they no longer have a chef. However service was as good as before.

The waitress at breakfast remembered us from previous visits and is a great member of the team.

Staff were pleasant and breakfast was good.
Other Comments
Restaurant was closed and the room was VERY noisy with traffic all night, also could not shower as bathroom was permanently cold. Had to go out at night to eat and no fire in the lounge so spent evenings in the room.
