Overview

The Whitewater Hotel & Leisure Club is on the banks of the River Leven, surrounded by mountain fells and picturesque villages. It's less than five minutes' drive from the southern shores of Windermere, England's largest lake.

Lakeland Motor Museum is a few minutes' walk from the hotel, and Lakeland Miniature Village is 15 minutes' drive away. Bowness-on-Windermere Pier, for Lake Windermere boat trips, is less than 20 minutes' drive. We recommend the cruise from Bowness to Ambleside -- the town centre is around 20 minutes' walk from Ambleside Pier, and from there you can follow the signs to see the 70-foot-high waterfall Stock Ghyll Force.

The Lakeside & Haverthwaite line -- a preserved steam-train railway running through picturesque countryside -- is 15 minutes' walk from the hotel, while Whitbarrow Nature Reserve and Coniston Water are both less than 30 minutes' drive. The Old Man of Coniston -- a fell that's over 2000 feet high and a popular hiking destination -- is a 50-minute drive away.

The hotel's Cascades Health Spa & Fitness Club has a heated indoor pool, a Turkish hammam, an Arabian mud temple, a sauna, a Jacuzzi, a gym, and tennis and squash courts.

The Riverside Restaurant offers a fine-dining menu, while The Dolly Blue Bar & Grill -- named after the pigment formerly created within the mill -- offers casual dining.
