Overview

This AAA 4-Diamond resort offers guests a glimpse into the past on top of a host of activities -- from spa days and swimming to hiking and tennis matches -- plus modern amenities like marble bathrooms, in-room coffee makers and free Wi-Fi.

Rooms decorated in neutral hues with pops of bright color feature either a king or two queen beds, as well as colonial colonial accents -- like prints from the Revolutionary and Civil Wars -- that mirror the resort's storied past. For more outdoor space, we recommend upgrading to a Premium Room, which comes with its own private balcony or patio -- some with lakeside views.

Dining options at the Boar's Head run the gambit from poolside snacks from the Firefly Bar & Grill to sustainably harvested oysters at the resort's Mill Room restaurant. Although there's no shortage of on-site activities, the University of Virginia is less than ten minutes away. In addition to strolling the school's historic campus, guests have complimentary access to UVA's 33,000 square-foot McArthur Squash Center.

Beautiful spacious room with nice pillow top mattress. Water pressure was inconsistent but bearable. Bathroom amenities were lovely. Our A/C unit was acting up upon arrival however maintenance was promptly sent to correct the problem. The only negative I have is that there were about 4 unsightly huge laundry bins left at the entryway to our hall the entire time we were there.

We love to stay at the Boars Head. The antiques are missed however the new decor is tasteful.

Hotel was great! Lovely room and setting. Dinner at restaurant was okay except my husband bit into a cold tablet gel tab in his soup. A little discomforting.

Resort good. Spa was a big let down

I was not pleased that my spa treatment was cancelled the day of No backup person to cover someone who called in sick. Ithis was reserved well in advance and I had to scramble to find an alternate spa for my friend and myself. Very bad customer service. Would never attempt to book the spa again.

The resort and the room were beautiful and the restaurant had wonderful food and atmosphere. The big negative was that I went there for a girls spa weekend celebrating my retirement. We made Spa reservations weeks in advance but were called in the middle of our three hour drive there and tolf that the staff person who was performing our treatments called in sick and they did not have a backup. They also had nothing available the following day and offered nothing as compensation for our troubles. This was very disappointing and it was handled very unprofessionally. Basically the spa receptionist did not seem interested in helping to resolve this problem. She did not even offer to have a manager call us . For a resort of this caliber they should be more customer oriented.

We had a good dinner and a good breakfast. The service was exceptional at both. Location to wineries, Charlottsville and Monticello was great. This would be a good venue for someone who wants to swim, play tennis, play racquet ball, use the gym and visit the spa. Otherwise, less expensive lodging is available elsewhere.

Had to change rooms. First one looked out (at eye level) at infrastructure on top of kitchen roof. Second room was good with balcony but the hotel cleaning supplies were always lining the entrance hallway with large bins of dirty laundry and the door to the workroom always open, etc. Not very professional, We wanted to sit around the adult pool but the facility was just "ok". Nothing very inviting. The walking trail towards the golf course direction was "ok".

the hotel resort commodities are great. The only thing is that the front desk forgot to include the $30 credit from our bill when we checked out. I have to remind them to deduct it after the full amount was charged to my card.
