Why We Love It

  • The resort has a long history of famous guests, including 13 U.S. presidents
  • The on-site golf course was one of the nation's first
  • Features a 30,000-square-foot spa that utilizes natural spring water in many treatments as an homage to the eight mineral springs on property that were once used by Native Americans for their healing properties
  • The 2,200-acre property has 25 miles of hiking trails

Dating back to 1796, the AAA 4-Diamond Omni Bedford Springs Resort is a National Historic Landmark surrounded by several miles of hiking and biking trails. Located in South Pennsylvania’s Cumberland Valley, it can be easily reached by car from Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

Guest rooms have modern comforts like Wi-Fi but retain historic touches from the hotel’s past, including dark wood headboards and furnishings. Rooms in the historic wing feature 9-foot ceilings while garden-facing rooms offer views of the Bedford hillside. The spa wing is located near the Spring Eternal Spa and offers rooms with either garden or pool views and Juliet balconies or porches.

In 2016, Conde Nast Traveler readers named the hotel among the Top 10 Resorts in New York State and the Mid-Atlantic, adding that “the spa alone is worth the trip.” The 30,000-square-foot spa features eight mineral springs that were historically used by Native Americans for their healing properties. The spa now uses indigenous-inspired products with local herbs and botanicals along with natural spring water in every treatment.

Other property amenities include the Bedford Springs Old Course, an 18-hole historic course with views of the Cumberland Valley and Allegheny Mountains. Guests can take advantage of a golf package or receive personal golf instructions from the on-site golf pro.

The resort features a heated, spring-fed indoor pool, as well as an outdoor pool and whirlpool surrounded by tented cabanas and loungers suited for warmer months. There is also a fitness center that offers yoga classes and private Pilates lessons.

Guests craving an upscale dining experience can take advantage of the signature steakhouse, the 1796 Room. The restaurant only opens for dinner and all entrees are served with a signature grilled artichoke. The Crystal Room and Frontier Tavern are open as breakfast and lunch options, while Che Sara Sara serves coffee and light bites. Afternoon tea is served on Fridays and Saturdays as a Bedford tradition, and drinks are available at the poolside Turtle Shell.

Activities within the resort range from guided nature hikes to fly fishing and scavenger hunts. Attractions nearby include the National Museum of the American Coverlet, the Hershey Symphony, downtown Bedford and the Lakemont amusement and water park.

The service was fantastic across the board. I also enjoyed the history and the ability to do as much or as little as I wanted. The spa was quite fantastic too. It was the R&R weekend my wife and I needed.
Other Comments
Prices for spa services and food/drink items were unexpectedly high.

The room was great as were the staff at the resort.
Other Comments
It is unfortunate that a guest must pay extra (alot extra) to use the hot tub and/or sauna. Hot tubs and saunas are usually available to all guests for the price of the stay at even lesser hotels, etc.
