Overview

The 17th-century Buckland Tout-Saints Hotel is set at the end of a winding country lane, among rolling Devon hills.

The décor features elegant chandeliers and lavish curtains. The real highlights, however, are the period features such as the fine woodcarvings and moulded ceilings.

The hotel is in a great spot to explore both coast and countryside -- the sailing town of Salcombe is 20 minutes' drive away, while Dartmoor National Park is around 25 minutes' drive away. Exeter city centre is an hour away by car and is home to an impressive cathedral and Roman tunnels. Alternatively, you can visit the naval city of Plymouth, a 50-minute drive away.

A "food-to-fork" ethos guides cooking at the 2-AA-Rosette Queen Anne Restaurant, which uses produce grown on the grounds or locally obtained organic and seasonal fare. There's also al fresco terrace dining in summer, with views over the manicured gardens and valleys beyond, while the lounge bar offers a cosy atmosphere in colder months.

The hotel has 16 bedrooms. Traditional Classic Rooms are decorated in light tones and earthy shades, while Superior Rooms have antique-style furniture, and some include 4-poster beds. Contemporary Classic Rooms have a more modern, boutique look. Wi-Fi is free.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely grounds. excelant food. rooms a bit tired. Plus access quite difficult for any one with even minor mobility problems. Saw after I had booked that web site did say not suitable for disabled , but this was not very obvious. I did struggle with the stairs.

You have to access the hotel via small country lanes its not just off, of a main road. The setting was idyllic and the hotel was very comfortable. I have no hesitation returning to this hotel.

Cream tea was delicious. We were able to enjoy this on the terrace in the sunshine.
Other Comments
This hotel is remote and if looking for total peace and quiet, it would be a perfect match. However, access for the last couple of miles is down very challenging lanes and for this reason we would be unlikely to return.
