Overview

With high ceilings, oak panelling and chandeliers, Best Western Chilworth Manor Hotel is an "attractive" (The AA) converted Edwardian manor house in the Hampshire village of Chilworth. The New Forest and South Downs national parks, Southampton and Winchester are all within 20 minutes' drive of the hotel.

Southampton's attractions include Bargate, the Old Town gateway, and the 14th-century town walls -- the longest stretch of unbroken medieval defensive walling in England. There is also a Jane Austen Trail through the Old Town, which starts at Bargate and takes in eight significant places related to the author. Westquay has plenty of high-street shopping and dining options, or you can check out Bedford Place for its independent shops and cafés.

The New Forest and South Downs national parks both offer picturesque woodlands, rolling hills, quaint villages and market towns.

Best Western Chilworth Manor is in the quiet village of Chilworth. Part of it is a conservation area with lots of buildings dating back to the 16th century, including several thatched cottages.

The hotel is set in 12 acres of landscaped gardens with a walking trail. It has an indoor pool, a gym and a spa with a sauna and a steam room. There is also a restaurant and a lounge.

Rooms are in the main house or the adjacent extension. Deluxe rooms have Nespresso coffee machines and views of the gardens. Wi-Fi is free.

Disappointed kids not allowed to use pool even though christmas holidays. Surely 1 hour a day could be available. I was told in advance but only after booking/payment

Very friendly staff. Super room, beautiful gardens to explore.
Other Comments
Choose a back room overlooking gardens if you want a quiet room. However no lift in the main building.

We really enjoyed everything about our visit except the bed was extremely uncomfortable which was such a shame because that is the most important thing when staying in a hotel.

Nice old Manor House, friendly staff. Lovely grounds. Easy parking.
Other Comments
Very busy conference center type hotel. Room was in a modern annex attached to the old manor. Clean and tidy if a bit basic and soulless. No heater in the bathroom. Food was okay, but the included three course menu was a bit limited and not off the al a carte as advertised. There was an option to order from the al a carte with a £25 allowance, which is what we did, having two courses, which was enough. Breakfast was off the buffet pre cooked, so a bit dry. So overall okay, but probably wouldn’t go back. If you were there for a corporate stay, it would be fine.

Broken fittings in bathroom, tap too big for sink and flooded floor, bulbs gone in lamps, door lock loode,. Food was disappointing...more quality not quantity!
