With a fully equipped spa and an indoor pool, the North Lakes Hotel & Spa is a popular choice for those looking to be pampered in Penrith. It's to the northeast of the Lake District, but is ideal for those travelling without a car, or breaking up a journey to or from Scotland -- it's a 10-minute walk from the railway station and is easily accessible from the M6.
The Rheged Centre is a 5-minute drive away, and has shops, a cinema, an indoor play area and exhibitions. Ullswater lake is a 15-minute drive away and Keswick is 25 minutes by car. The ruins of Penrith Castle are 10 minutes' walk away.
The interior of the hotel was fully renovated in 2016. The spa has an indoor pool, a sauna, a steam room and a Jacuzzi, and treatments are available for a supplement (pre-booking is recommended). The restaurant serves local ales and produce from across the region. There's a cosy lounge with a log fire and wood panelling, perfect for a pre- or after-dinner drink.
The modern bedrooms have a neutral grey and white colour scheme, and come with free Wi-Fi, complimentary biscuits, fresh milk, tea- and coffee-making facilities, bottled water and a pillow menu. Family rooms include mini dressing gowns for children. There are a small number of dog-friendly bedrooms, while dogs are also welcome in the lobby, the bar and the terrace areas of the hotel.
