Overview

Opposite the famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre and with a garden in which The Bard himself is reputed to have penned plays, The Arden Hotel is in a great spot for exploring Stratford-upon-Avon. Part of the exclusive Eden Hotel Collection, which was named Small Hotel Group of the Year in 2014 by The AA, this quirky getaway is "a peaceful place away from the hustle and bustle of the town's touristy centre", say the Radio Times.

Within Stratford-upon-Avon itself you can visit Shakespeare's Birthplace, and Anne Hathaway's Cottage. Seeing a Shakespeare play seems almost obligatory -- the Royal Shakespeare Theatre is close enough to nip back to the hotel for a pint during the interval. Stratford Butterfly Farm is less than a 10-minute walk away.

At the Waterside Brasserie restaurant, classic dishes that are strong on local ingredients and can be served on the terrace or in the garden (weather permitting). Breakfast is a seriously decadent affair, with duck eggs and soldiers and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs alongside a continental buffet. There is also the Champagne Bar for a celebratory glass of bubbles, and innovative cocktails, the Club Bar with a private riverside terrace, and the Lounge, which serves daily afternoon tea.

With gold or velvet bedspreads, abstract art and a king-size bed, each of the plush and vibrantly decorated hotel rooms feature free Wi-Fi and marble bathrooms.

Lovely hotel in the heart of Stratford but on a very quiet road opposite the theatre. Staff a little off most of the time, did feel like a second class citizen asking for the afternoon tea when they produced a cream tea and were told we were a 'Travelzoo booking??' Anyway tea came quickly and efficiently after that but did feel that whatever we mentioned during our stay was done half heartedly. Left them with a list of small things that really housekeeping needed to keep on their toes. Blind broken, mound on shower screen but receptionist was very good and thanked me for feedback which she said was always good. Wasn't moaning but if they are marketing a boutique hotel small things do count.

From arrival until leaving the attention from Staff from all parts of the Hotel was first class but particularly from those at Reception. I cannot praise them highly enough. They made our break.

The Arden is not the most eye catching from a visual perspective but they say do not judge a book by its cover and that is certainly the case here. Staff and service Excellent. Food at breakfast and Dinner Excellent. Room and Bed Excellent. Location Perfect. Could not have wished for a better couple of days. Thank You. Jim Blott

The room was pleasant BUT the bathroom was Very small and there were issues with the bath fittings. Considering that this hotel is part of the Eden group were were disappointed. We would not say that we didn't enjoy our stay but the service at meal times, particularly breakfast was certainly not on par. We had to ask for a menu 3 times but the food was good. Considering the wait at breakfast it made our 11am checkout a little rushed. We were in the dining room for 9.15

The reason that we won't recommend this hotel to our friends or return ourselves is down to the service

We enjoyed the location of the hotel and the fact it had parking.

However the deal we purchased included a 3 course dinner but when we checked out we were charged an additional service charge - surely this should be included in the price of the dinner that was included in the deal or this should even be optional surely as there was no warning of this additional charge. The advice was actually very slow and both times we attended the restaurant they did not have out booking details. Also the menu choice was quite poor as both the starters and main had very similar dishes both based on peas which neither of us particularly like. The pudding was very disappointing and tasteless. Also the room was very very hot and we had to open the windows but was still warm.
