This hotel is in a good location. The building and lobby are charming. Staff and valet were helpful. We were first given a room on 4/F at check-in. It was a dark room that looked out right to the roof top of next building. We then requested to change to another room and were given one at higher floor (6/F) that has a more open view. Perhaps this is an old building, at night we could hear the voice of the gentleman in the room next to us. One highlight is a server at the Swamp Fox restaurant named Sylvie. She is super nice and made our breakfast experience very enjoyable.

The breakfast at the Swamp Fox restaurant was good and had plenty of choices. They met my husband's special requests. We also appreciate Sylvie's attentive services and her personality. She served us on the first morning's breakfast of our stay. When she was not there on the second morning as it was her day off, the service was fine but could not be compared.

The hotel was in a great location. We were able to do self parking, not valet which saved some money. We could walk all along the River and explore neighborhoods and waterfront without needing a car. The hotel was clean, if a bit dated. Like one of those stately iconic hotels. The voucher for breakfast was for use in the hotel restaurant and was very good. Complimentary bottle of wine was an $8 Cabernet. Wish we’d had choices of wine variety. Concierge was helpful and provided tips on dining and sights. You would need a car to venture out to beaches or Fort Sumter.

When we returned from dinner, about 10 pm, the hotel was in total,darkness. There had been a storm and power was completely knocked out. So, it was a bit disappointing that we had no TV, internet or air conditioning. Luckily, power came back on at about 2 am. Thank goodness we all had phone flashlights or it might have been a real inconvenience.

We've been to this hotel before and love the location. It's close to the Medical University of South Carolina, so if you have an appointment, it's 15 minutes walking distance. There's a great pizza shop right across the street. The CARTA (free bus) stop is right down the street to take you to the city market and back up Meeting Street. The restaurant food is excellent, as well as the service. If you're visiting Charleston, it's a great place to stay.

The only downside was a $25 spa card for anything was to be included. Upon arrival they gave us $50 cards and could only be used for "qualifying" treatments. The hotel was kind enough to give us credit since I couldn't get the treatment I wanted to get. Again, the customer service at the hotel was exceptional.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Frances Marion. The hotel is lovely and elegant. Location was relatively convenient; a stroll of about 20 minutes down King Street took us into the heart of the market and restaurant area. Staff was excellent and helpful. We had 2 small issues, though not complaints. The bathroom was adequate but tiny. We checked in at a busy time and had some trouble finding an empty spot by the curb to check in and have our luggage unloaded. We loved the Travelzoo offer. A bottle of wine with chocolates and breakfast included? Who wouldn't love that?

Room was tiny. Had to call for wine to be delivered. Housekeeping never showed. Difficulty getting parking card. Parking deck elevator still down. Walk thru sewer stairs with luggage to get to car. Each return trip gets worse.

The Swamp Fox (restaurant) was wonderful. Their shrimp and grits was truly "Award Winning" and the folks at the restaurant were incredibly happy and welcoming.

Very small beds
Yes, we were warned about the facade being worked on, but the NOISE was every day, over the course of 5 days, even without the construction. We were on the other side of the building and had incessant HVAC noise, and the scaffolding banging against the building in the wind (even on non-working days). We paid additionally for parking "on site" which wasn't really on site, then had a problem with the garage nearly every day: broken elevator, garage full (so I guess no reserved spaces for the hotel), one day there was a marathon (so garage closed) and another a parade. We found out about the garage closure the night before parade day with a sign in the elevator. That was it. Sign said we wouldn't be able to get out of the garage from 10:30 - 4:30, so we moved to another garage (at our expense) only to find the garage completely accessible when we returned from sightseeing at 1:30.

The shrimp and grits should be entered into a competition!Wine is nice though we don’t drink red wine, truffles are delicious but we don’t really need, very clean, lots of towels, very pleasant front desk staff. Valet are sometimes attentive at the door, sometimes not.

The Travelzoo deal, combined with the hotel's location made this a very good value. The staff was friendly and the food in the hotel restaurant was surprisingly good and our waitress, Sylvie, was a pleasure. My only hesitation in visiting again, is in the actual guest rooms themselves. The furniture (case goods in hotel speak) are worn and too bulky for the room size. However, the linens and towels were in new condition and clean and the mattress was comfortable for both myself and my wife.
