Overview

Towering over King Street for nearly a century, the Francis Marion Hotel is considered one of the charming city’s grand dames. Much like its historic surroundings, the downtown property reflects the ambiance of the 1920s, with impressive pillars and stately chandeliers. 

Cornflower-blue rooms and suites are decorated in historic Charleston style, with two-poster beds, custom tapestries and granite-topped wood furnishings. All rooms include free Wi-Fi, coffeemakers and flat-screen TVs, while Deluxe Rooms feature seating areas, and suites have separate living rooms with sofa beds. Lower floors may be subject to street noise, so for quieter stays — and the best views — request a higher-floor room looking out at King Street or the harbor.

Guests can reserve a time slot to visit the 24-hour fitness center and, for additional costs, can book treatments at the full-service Adagio Day Spa (by appointment only). Bearing the nickname of the revolutionary war hero himself, Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox Restaurant & Bar serves upscale, classic Southern cuisine. Guests can also find James Beard Award-winning restaurants Husk and FIG within a mile of the hotel.

We had the deal of $170 a night with free breakfast and a bottle of wine. They updated us to a suite because we had stayed there before. They delivered the wine , a nice Cabernet, with some of the best chocolate trufffles I’ve ever had. Breakfast was delicious. The service was incredible with the valet offering my husband the use of his personal golf clubs. Apparently the staff has carte blanche to do whatever to make the customer happy, including giving me a small box of the truffles because I wanted to know where to buy some. A superb experience!

This was truly a most magical time with my grown children and me at this beautiful hotel! Thank you so much for introducing me to the Francis Marion and the breakfast vouchers were WONDERFUL to have where I could enjoy every morning with my family around a lovely table with a delicious breakfast!!! I will definitely be back as my son is doing his Fellowship in Charleston!
