Schloss Hotel Dresden-Pillnitz
Why We Love This Hotel
- Fairy-tale setting in a Saxon summer palace
- An hour by bike from Dresden
- Go hiking in the Elbe mountains or take the ferry to Meissen
- The hotel serves hearty Saxon food and French cuisine
Set beside the River Elbe within the grounds of a Baroque castle and surrounded by fruit orchards, Schlosshotel Pilllnitz has a fairy tale quality. The hotel was originally a restaurant in the 18th and 19th centuries and has since been lavishly restored and transformed into an intimate hideaway by the Zepp family.
Now it offers big-windowed guest rooms with comfortable beds. Other accommodation options include the grand Elbe suite and two Romantic suites with waterbeds. Downstairs, the main restaurant serves French cuisine on the terrace or by the open fire in cooler months. Hearty Saxon food is available in the café and conservatory and the castle beer garden is a pleasant place to imbibe from April until October.
Explore the grounds of this former Saxon summer palace by bike or cycle an hour down the Elbe cycle path into Dresden, which offers a lively roster of concerts and other cultural events.
Guests can also take a ferry across the Elbe from the nearby jetty to visit the picturesque Saxon Switzerland region or the cathedral town of Meissen. The surrounding Elbe sandstone mountains are a hiking paradise, and the nearby town of Glashutte is the birthplace of the German watchmaking industry, with a watch museum.
