Its location in Amsterdam’s new Zuidas commercial district and proximity to Schiphol Airport may make you think this Crowne Plaza is just a business hotel. Not so -- Amsterdam’s historic city centre, with sights such as the Rijksmuseum, the Anne Frank House and the Van Gogh Museum, is only a 10-minute tram journey away or a pleasant cycle on bikes you can hire from the hotel (charges apply).
Modelled on La Défense in Paris and Canary Wharf in London, Zuidas itself is not merely a business district, either. Popular with expats, and with plenty of Amsterdammers living there, too, it’s projected to be the city’s second biggest housing zone in a couple of decades.
Back at the hotel, the one o one restaurant serves a full buffet in the morning, with eggs cooked to order and local smoked fish, plus international cuisine for lunch and dinner (Monday-Thursday). The Manhattan Lounge Bar is a classic cocktail lounge that also serves the renowned Manhattan Burger. On the second floor is a small 24-hour fitness centre with cardio equipment and a limited selection of weights.
The rooms and suites are quiet, comfortable and include complimentary bottled water. Upgrade to a Club Room for access to the Club Lounge, with complimentary breakfast in the morning, and free drinks and canapés all day.
