Overview

This elegant boutique hotel occupying three restored Victorian townhouses in central London is a "refreshing antidote to identikit minimalism”, says The Guardian. Expect period furniture, friendly staff and views over some of the city’s more leafy neighbourhoods. Paddington Rail Station and its tube lines are just a few minutes' walk.

Rooms and suites in this tasteful spot have handmade canopied wooden beds -- including four-posters -- mahogany furniture, and limestone-clad bathrooms. Wi-Fi is free, there are complimentary cookies and bottles of water at turndown and DVD players are available on request. Upgrade to a Deluxe Four Poster Suite for a small separate sitting room and room for up to two children in a roll away bed.

Warm touches elsewhere in the hotel include real keys rather than swipe cards and drawing rooms with open fires and oil paintings. In-room treatments can be arranged and there’s personal training available (extra charges apply). Breakfast can also be taken in bed at no extra charge.

Newly opened luxury cocktail bar The Hyde offers intimate and cosy surroundings, retaining the character of a 19th-century quintessentially British townhouse. It offers spirits from around the world, as well as wines from many small independent vineyards. A selection of small sharing plates is also available. There is an impressive afternoon tea served every day with tiers of scones and jam, macaroons or fig and rosemary shortbread, accompanied by flutes of champagne.

Further afield, there are lots of eateries nearby. Book ahead for The Ledbury, a two Michelin Star pub in Notting Hill that has an 8-week waiting list. For something more restrained, Maggie Jones is a well-priced French bistro in Kensington. During the day, explore the greenery of Hyde Park, or head to the Royal Albert Hall to see a concert. Oxford Street, Park Lane and High Street Kensington are all nearby for shopping fans, and Portobello Road, with one of the world’s best street markets is walking distance.

Other Comments
The location wasn't the greatest for tourist to London. Also, upon checking in, when the hotel saw I had booked through TravelZoo, they treated us like third class passengers. I've always loved booking through travelzoo but this was not a hit it was a miss. The hotel was not sold out, yet no way we're they going to upgrade our room.. Instead we got a room facing a dirty alley and a bed that was so incredibly uncomfortable it was miserable.

The staff were very courteous and friendly. The rooms and location were also quite nice.
Other Comments
The hot water tap in room 410 made a high pitched noise when turned on.
