The Woodstock Inn sits on land dating back to the 1700s, once owned by the Rockefeller family. Today, the AAA 4-Diamond inn is nestled between the charming town from which it takes its name and Vermont’s only national park, Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historic Park.

Following a $2.6 million renovation last April, the hotel’s front entry, arrival experience and first-floor public spaces have been transformed into a cozy welcome respite. Bookshelves, handpicked furniture and a massive stone fireplace set a homey feel, with the check-in process re-imaged from a singular front desk into several concierge desks to give guests a much more intimate welcome to the property.

Guest rooms are “contemporary and luxurious” (Fodor’s) and feature cherry or mahogany furnishings, handmade quilts and modern amenities like Keurig K-Cup coffee makers, flat-screen TVs and plush robes. Each suite includes a seating area with writing desk and interior shutters as well as all-white bathrooms decorated with subway tile and marble.

For dinner, visitors can pick from four restaurants on the property including The Red Rooster, a AAA 4-Diamond recipient, the more casual Richardson’s Tavern, Fairway Grill’s seasonal outdoor setting or Out of Bounds’ hearty soups and savory sandwiches during wintertime.

The property’s sprawling grounds include gardens, tennis courts, cross-country skiing trails, a fitness center and indoor sports center and an 18-hole golf course, which is lauded as the oldest golf course in Vermont. The resort’s “stunning” 10,000 square-foot state-of-the-art spa where “"the mood is peaceful, quiet and serene" (Fodor's) also offers guests a full menu of treatments, plus a eucalyptus steam room, outdoor hot tub and cedar sauna.

Downhill skiing is available at the nearby Suicide Six Ski Area, and Nordic skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking are available at The Nordic & Tubbs Snowshoes Adventure Center at the resort’s Country Club. A complimentary hotel shuttle runs to the Suicide Six ski area in winter and Woodstock guests score exclusive discounts on ski rentals.

Enjoyed Most: Our room was spacious and lovely. The bathroom was very large with two sinks and the bath/shower products were large and were of quality. Breakfast was delicous and included so many items and many items were healthy. My favorite steel cut oats were an excellent start to breakfast which included numerous items too many to list.
Other Comments: We went to the Inn with some friends and we all enjoyed the game room. It was fun and the people around us were nice as well. The employees were attentive to us. We enjoyed the spacious Inn with its many common area rooms where we could enjoy talking to the other guests. Afternoon tea was especially welcoming and the cookies were delicious. We also enjoyed walking around the village with its many shops.

Enjoyed Most: We loved how comfortable the room was! The room was beautiful, you could light a candle, and I loved the big bottles of shampoo. The bed was so comfy. They even brought us a complementary bottle of wine. I am 6 months pregnant so I couldn't enjoy it but it was the thought that counted! The food was great and we loved the library! We played games til late at night and didn't feel like we were burdening anyone!
Other Comments: When calling for room service, the first woman was so polite and charming. The second time we called to order room service the server was much colder and sounded like she couldn't be bothered. It didn't bother me much and everyone has their off days but I think it's important that all employees who interact with guests seem interested and upbeat in their conversations. My other suggestion would be to have coffee available in the lobby. This may not actually be feasible but when we were in the library at night playing games it would have been nice to have some type of drinks available to us in the lobby rather than having to go up to our room.

Enjoyed Most: Everything was great from the room, dining, friendly staff as well as being in the town center. We absolutely would stay again. The pool was relaxing and well kept. We also enjoyed the golf course.
