Needham House Hotel is an Edwardian manor in Little Wymondley, a quiet village near the market town of Hitchin in Hertfordshire. The property re-opened in 2016, following a 3-year renovation, and now has bright boutique-style interiors.

The hotel is easily reached from central London -- the train journey from King's Cross to Stevenage takes around 25 minutes, and it is then 10 minutes by taxi to the hotel. The 120-acre Fairlands Valley Park is a 10-minute drive from the hotel (open daily; the sailing centre is open Tuesday-Saturday). The property is less than 40 minutes' drive from the city of St Albans, with its "host of crooked Tudor buildings" and "elegant Georgian town houses" (Lonely Planet), and the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, where you can see behind the scenes of the "Harry Potter" movies.

The hotel's SG4 Brasserie holds two AA Rosettes for its British dishes, served in a relaxed setting. Hertfordshire Life reviewed the restaurant and praised its "attentive" service and "good solid fare". The adjoining bar and lounge offers a selection of over 30 different gins. There's also an ESPA spa with a Turkish hammam, a Swedish sauna and treatment rooms.

Bedrooms are modern and have views of the hotel's grounds. Executive Rooms have larger beds and a bigger TV than the Classic Rooms. Wi-Fi is free.

Best English breakfast I ever had, and the room was good as well. The most amazing thing about the stay was the breakfast. Bacon was soft, not too salty and fried to perfection. Meaty sausages were not greasy and tasted like home made. I think the bread and pastries were baked in-house. the croissants were one of the fluffiest and crispiest I ever had, and were slightly sweet.

The hotel is in a secluded location, and gives you the impression of a world away from the hustle and bustle of life. The room was decent sized with a firm comfortable bed and a couple of pillows. Our room had a nice shower, but no bath. Taking a shower was not the most comfortable because the temperature fluctuated. This was caused by an undulating cold water flow (both at night and in the morning). Next time, I’d eat at the restaurant. The price put me off on the day, but I think it would be worth it.

Fantastic staff, couldn't have been more helpful and lovely, nothing too much trouble and we felt incredibly welcome and well looked after. Beautiful decor, comfortable, lovely room, bathroom was first class. Excellent breakfast, loads of variety, great quality, best poached eggs I've had in years! Great location, close to Hitchin and all its amenities but when you're there you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere.

The room was very clean and had everything you needed for a two night stay. The breakfast was excellent and if there was anything you wanted not out on the service pass then the chef was more than happy to oblige with your request.

Overall a really enjoyable stay. The only negative is !!! the entrance is on a busy road with limited visual sighting of oncoming traffic.

We paid to upgrade to a balcony room and have breakfast served to the room in the morning which was all extra bonuses in making out night away even more enjoyable...the scorching weather helped also!
