Eastwood Hall sits in private grounds 20 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre. There's a Georgian manor house (pictured) at the heart of the hotel, built for use as a family home around 1810, and later used as the Regional Office of British Coal. Today the manor is a wedding and conference venue, and bedrooms are in a modern annexe towards the back of the hotel.

The hotel is on the edge of Eastwood, a former mining town bordered by countryside. There's a heritage centre -- Durban House -- five minutes' walk from the hotel, which used to be offices for the colliery where DH Lawrence's father worked. The DH Lawrence Birthplace Museum is the author's childhood home (open 10am-4pm Tuesday-Saturday), and it's a 10-minute walk from the hotel. You can learn how growing up in Eastwood influenced the author's controversial writing. The Blue Line Trail is a walk that links all of the Lawrence-related sights nearby.

Beauvale Priory and Felley Priory are both around 10 minutes' drive away; both have quaint tea rooms that serve homemade cakes and light lunches. Wollaton Hall, Papplewick Hall and Thrumpton Hall stately homes are all within 30 minutes, and Sherwood Forest -- of Robin Hood fame -- is 45 minutes' drive away.

All 150 bedrooms are in a contemporary annexe, and are decorated in neutral tones. There's an on-site restaurant and bar. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Enjoyed Most: The facilities and the grounds. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent.
Other Comments: The only issue was unless you're a DH Lawrence fan there isn't much around to grab your attention although we did manage a walk with our dog in Colliers Wood.

Enjoyed Most: The food; just brilliant.
Other Comments: Room doors are not soft closing so noisy door closing was a nuisance and not conducive to a good nights sleep

Enjoyed Most: The grounds were good.
Other Comments: Your very misleading picture - that building is the ambulance training facility, the hotel is a new building next door totally without character. The facility its self was okay. It could have been a premier inn or any other cheap hotel as it was without any single defining feature. So the price I paid you was in fact bang on as I have recently booked a number of premier inn rooms for £39 per night. The meal was good. Plastic bits in my partners main course but we enjoyed the food overall. Enjoyed it for what it was but would not recommend it to anyone else.

Enjoyed Most: Price
Other Comments: The tap drinking water was revolting. The bed for a superior room was very uncomfortable, the mattress needed replacing. The bathroom needed sorting out. The edges of bath and shower door were covered in mould, it was most off putting and not acceptable. The rooms were also noisy with regards people outside talking, etc. hotels normally have better soundproofing.
