"Amazing location and spacious throughout; sofas in the vestibule and tables in the restaurant were widely spaced which we really appreciate. Quiet in the restaurant, a welcome change from many hotels."

East Sussex National is around 10 minutes' drive from the South Downs National Park (an International Dark Sky Reserve) and the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, making the hotel a great base from which to explore their rolling hills and bustling market towns.

There are plenty of sites for history buffs to explore. In Lewes, which is 15 minutes' drive away, there is a ruinous Norman castle and a priory, as well as a Tudor house that belonged to Anne of Cleves. Battle, where the Battle of Hastings took place in 1066, is around 40 minutes' drive away, as is Brighton, home of the famous Pavilion.

In 2017, East Sussex National was awarded four AA Silver Stars, which signify that a property offers a superior level of quality in hospitality, service and cleanliness.

The Pavilion Restaurant has two AA Rosettes and serves a collection of dishes prepared with ingredients sourced from local suppliers. The Hunnington Restaurant and Ryder Bar & Terrace is in the golf club house and serves traditional home cooking, light lunches and sandwiches. The Sussex Lounge has outdoor seating in the gardens or on the balcony terrace.

Club Rooms have Wi-Fi and private balconies overlooking the golf course.

The health club offers aerobics classes (supplements apply) and its facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a spa pool, a sauna, and steam room and a gym. Horsted Spa has an aromatherapy room, a monsoon shower, a Jacuzzi, a steam room, a sauna and a relaxation room. Massages and exfoliation treatments are available at a supplement, but there is limited availability in the spa on weekends and treatments should be pre-booked. There are also two golf courses: the East Course and West Course.

Found the Dinner Manager had a bit of an attitude when I had reason to make a complaint.

Excellent service. My partner is disabled and I have mobility problems,so moving around is quite a challenge for us. Staff used a wheelchair to get him to and from our room and the restaurant. It was all done very cheerfully.

A very comfortable room with disabled facilities and a lovely view from a verandah. Nice food pleasantly served. Drinks a reasonable price. In general staff were very professional and have been well trained. Could not fault the hotel and its service.

A very enjoyable stay the staff were very good but need more staff on reception as there was only one receptionist at most times. When we arrived we were kept waiting quite a while to check in which made us feel unwelcome.

Everything was excellent. My partner and I have serious mobility problems. The staff were not fazed by this and gave us tremendous support, including wheelchair service. The young man called Joe was especially helpful and kind. The room was spacious and comfortable and the bathroom was A1 for the disabled. The bedroom had a lovely balcony giving a very open outlook onto beautiful grounds. We have already booked other stays as this hotel will be up there among our very best favourites. The hotel is generously staffed and the young staff had obviously been very well trained to be welcoming and provide excellent, professional service. Overall, very impressive.

We didn't know breakfast finished at 9.30 so barely got anything to eat as we arrived at 9.25 I think as a spa break 10.00 would be much better, some guests got no breakfast at all!!
