Overview

Set in West Yorkshire, close to Halifax and the rugged South Pennine countryside, this "delightful" (The AA) ivy-clad Jacobean manor retains many of its original features, including open fireplaces and stone mullioned windows. On the edge of the area known as Brontë country -- for its association with the famous literary sisters -- the 17th-century Holdsworth House Hotel & Restaurant is no stranger to celebrity guests, having hosted Jamie Oliver and The Beatles. It also featured in the BBC's "Last Tango in Halifax".

The hotel is on the outskirts of Halifax, where the villages surrounding the town blend into the Yorkshire countryside. It is around 45 minutes' drive from the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Peak District National Park.

Keep an eye out for the stone Maltese cross above the hotel's central gable, which denotes that at one time the estate was in the hands of the ancient Order of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem.

The hotel's "elegant" candlelit and oak-panelled 2-AA-Rosette restaurant uses local produce -- The AA says, "dinner provides the highlight of any stay". Long Bar serves local ales on tap and cocktails.

Rooms have Wi-Fi and room service is available 24 hours a day.

From the press:

"Public rooms, adorned with beautiful paintings and antique pieces, include a choice of inviting lounges" -- The AA Hotel Guide 2017
