The Reef View Hotel in Hamilton Island -- one of the Whitsunday Islands off the coast of Queensland, in the heart of Australia's Great Barrier Reef -- offers "unparalleled views of Catseye Beach and the Coral Sea", says the Daily Mail. It's a modern, family-friendly, high-rise, 4-star hotel directly opposite Catseye Beach, within a 10-minute walk of the Hamilton Island Marina and Hamilton Island Yacht Club, and 1.3km from the airport.
While most visitors to Hamilton Island pursue water sports like scuba diving, snorkelling or sailing in the Great Barrier Reef (available at the hotel or nearby for a surcharge), the island has plenty of other activities. It's five square kilometres wide, so is very easy to get around, either by foot or golf buggy (available from the hotel, book in advance). Along with the parade of shops, restaurants and nightclubs at the marina, the famed lookout point at One Tree Hill is great for enjoying sunsets with a glass of prosecco, and Passage Peak, the highest point on the island, offers views of the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef. WILD LIFE Hamilton Island is a 2-minute walk from the hotel, and is home to iconic Australian species such as koalas, kangaroos, cockatoos and wombats.
The 364 stylish, airy guestrooms and 18 suites come with free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV with cable channels, in-house movies (for a surcharge), iPod docks, a safe, a mini bar/fridge, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and a private furnished balcony with views over the Coral Sea or lush tropical gardens. Upgraded rooms feature extra living areas and a kitchenette; family rooms and suites have interconnecting rooms and DVD players, along with a large terrace and barbecue area with grills. Some suites have private plunge pools or a spa bath, plus extras including complimentary use of the hotel golf buggy and beach equipment for snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, windsurfing, etc. Spacious wheelchair-accessible rooms are available, as is room service.
The Pool Terrace Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and à la carte dinner, with a poolside bar for enjoying the sunset by the outdoor swimming pool. There's also an "impressive lobby bar with espresso martinis that are definitely worth a try" (Daily Mail); an on-site marina; a café/coffee shop; a convenience store and snack bar; a spa; a beauty salon; a 24-hour front desk, business center and concierge service; a health club and free access to a local fitness center; a children's club and childcare (for a surcharge); and conference facilities. The hotel also offers free shuttles to the airport, ferry terminal, shopping center and marina, and there's free parking on site.
