Why We Love It

  • At the edge of the bustling Chinatown and Little Italy neighborhoods, steps from stylish bars, cozy restaurants and high-end shops
  • Sleek rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows; aim for the higher floors to get the best views
  • Great on-site cocktail bar with reasonable prices, even by New York City standards
  • In the same neighborhood as famed New York eateries Beauty & Essex, Dominique Ansel's Bakery and Katz's Delicatessen

The well-priced Wyndham Garden Hotel is a glass tower on the edge of bustling Chinatown, only a couple of blocks from the restaurants and bars of Little Italy, SoHo’s shops and the clubs of the Lower East Side. The nearest subway station (Grand Street) is one block from the hotel for rides to uptown attractions like the Empire State Building and Times Square (15-20 minutes away).

Guest rooms are comfortable and bright, offering large floor-to-ceiling windows and views of the city. Opt for a room on one of the higher floors for better views and less noise. Premium rooms on some floors have balconies with city views, or upgrade to a suite for a separate living room area with a sofa bed.

The on-site restaurant, Wu Room, serves American fare in a dimly lit, sultry venue. Located in the lower level of the hotel, the restaurant becomes a lively lounge at night and can get packed quickly. The hotel's 18th floor lounge features direct views of the Empire State building and the 19th floor rooftop bar provides panoramic views of Manhattan. The area outside the hotel is rife with classic dining options as well as famous New York restaurants, be sure to ask the staff for their expert suggestions.

The hotel is ideal for visitors looking for an authentic New York City experience off the beaten path. The hotel is still close enough to explore Times Square and other tourist hot spots but for guests looking to visit lesser known attractions like South Street Seaport, Battery Park, and outer boroughs, this hotel is a better bet.

We loved being so close to so many excellent restaurants in Chinatown and Little Italy. We had some amazing food at great prices. Also, a B and D (orange line) subway station was very close and we could be in midtown in 15 minutes.

The adjacent bar was decent and the bartender was very nice. The room was very small but functional and had great floor to ceiling windows with a fantastic view of the Empire State Building.

Well, let's see... The air conditioning was broken and the temp was over 97 with a heat index of 103. The front desk clerk came to check it out and first tried to tell me that it was because the blinds were open. Um, it's midnight and the sun has been down for 4 hours. The room is tiny, so I'm kinda thinking that's not the reason. I asked to be moved to a different room. No can do because they are sold out. They offered a fan, which I accepted. That would have helped us sleep if the fan didn't make a very loud humming sound all night. So hot/loud - just not conducive to sleeping which is what I was paying for. Aside from that - when I arrived I asked to change the credit card to be charged for the night and was assured that they had. The next morning while checking out, Vanessa the daytime front desk clerk informed me that they had not, however was able to correct it at that time.

It was fine for one night. I can see how people wouldn't like it for long term stays though. Noisy rowdy bar just outside (I didn't mind), the neighborhood is fine but it's very commercial so not a lot of shops open after a certain hour. It was impossible to find a convenience store open at 11:30 pm for a bottle of water. One night ok, more than that I would have picked somewhere else.
