"The staff was very friendly and accommodating, the food in Harvest was delicious, the rooms are a great size with really nice bathrooms, and there are lots of outdoor activities. We arrived at the tail end of a Dirty Dancing weekend and they even had the Kellerman’s sign up, which was a great surprise!"

Overview

Close to the Appalachian Trail, the Mountain Lake Lodge has been in business since before the Civil War and has welcomed guests since the 1930s.

Movie buffs will recognize the sandstone face of the Mountain Lake Lodge as the resort featured in the film "Dirty Dancing," but in recent years, the Lodge has reinvented itself as an adventure destination. With 22 miles of hiking and biking trails, fishing, rafting and kayaking on the New River or zip-lining through the treetops (available seasonally), there's lots for guests to explore. Note that a number of activities require additional fees, but complimentary activities include lawn chess, shuffleboard, bocce and use of the newly renovated outdoor pool and hot tub.

Rooms offer king, queen or twin beds. North Side rooms feature views of the property's expansive front lawn, and Suites add a sitting area and jetted bathtub. It's worth mentioning that because the lodge is meant to be a true getaway and an older property, rooms do not include televisions or air conditioners (fans are included in all rooms). However, between exploring the outdoors; dining at Harvest, the farm-to-table restaurant; and chatting around the fireplace in the lobby or over drinks at the Stony Creek Tavern, you should be able to get along without it.

You couldn't all for a more peaceful time. The staff, hotel, amenities and food were wonderful and it doesn't hurt that I'm a huge Dirty Dancing fan. We will be back again next year for sure.

Wonderful time. We tried the escape room and had a great time - didn't do too well, but we had fun.

We had a lovely time at the Lodge, beautiful scenery & iconic location. Enjoyed the self guided dirty dancing tour around the property. The chef’s potato pancakes at Harvest were excellent!

We stayed at the Lodge while we were in town to move our daughter into Virginia Tech. It was a short visit and we didn't have time to take in all the activities, but we will be back. We enjoyed our dinner and breakfast in Harvest.

The restaurants were superb. I would recommend to anyone to tour the property for the day and eat in the restaurant. Just do not stay in the lodge!

The front desk and housekeeping staff were not professional and did not do their jobs.

We called the week before to request an early check in, as we were arriving (from Cincinnati) for my mom's birthday at 1pm instead of 4pm. The woman I spoke with (event coordinator) said this wouldn't be an issue and noted it on our reservation. We ended up not being able to check in until after the 4pm check in time, because our room was not clean/ready. While this sucked, and gave a poor first impression, Emily (night staff at the front desk) more than made up for it with her sweet and kind demeanor!
Other Comments
Didn't mind that there was no AC- rooms felt great. Would have been nice to have a mini fridge or a microwave though. Also was unsure about the reusable/refillable shampoo/lotion containers- most hotels that have made the switch have them secured in some way so that they can't be opened by guests and tampered with. It takes a lot of trust to assume that the person in the room before you wasn't a jerk putting Nair or Dye in the bottle!
