Overview

Set on a 268-acre estate a 20-minute drive from Canterbury, Broome Park Hotel occupies a 17th-century stately home once owned by Lord Kitchener. The mansion house was built between 1635 and 1638, and was transformed into a country house hotel in the 1930s.

The private estate has an 18-hole, par-72 golf course designed by renowned golf architect Donald Steel. In the mansion house, you'll find the Kitchener Restaurant & Bar, which serves modern British dishes (many of the ingredients are sourced from producers in Kent) and daily afternoon tea. There's also a bar, a heated indoor pool, a sauna and a gym. Leisure facilities include squash and tennis courts, a croquet lawn and a snooker table.

Mansion Double Rooms have views over the landscaped gardens and the golf course, and are on the first or second floor (there is no lift). There is free Wi-Fi throughout.

The hotel is 10 miles from Canterbury and there's a regular bus service into the city centre from a stop at the end of the drive. This partially walled city features the ruins of a Norman castle and one of the oldest cathedrals in England. The cute coastal town of Whitstable is a 30-minute drive away, and you can reach Dover and Folkestone within 20 minutes.

Staff very friendly, breakfast excellent, bed comfortable and rooms big but a bit tired. Some cupboard doors were loose and bathroom was not so good with a shower that was useless but a good bath.

Broome Park is an old country house originally split into time share apartments but now an 18 room hotel. Recently bought by a new owner it really needs some money spent on the rooms but then the price would be considerably more. I thought the Travelzoo offer was excellent value for money.

Really beautiful hotel the room was great the only downside was there was not enough hot water for my husband to have a bath in the evening and no hot water in the basin for a morning wash or to do your teeth which was a real shame. We were told that it was due to the age of the building but we had stayed in a 13th century hotel two nights ago and there was more than enough hot water for a huge bath and water the next morning to have a wash.

Also it would’ve been nice to have a bit more heat in the dining room as I found it quite cold

Beautiful place, comfortable beds, quality accommodation, excellent breakfast, lovely surroundings and grounds.

Just a few little hiccups, which don't need describing, hence the 4 stars in places. Service was mainly excellent, but fell down a little at times.

A truly lovely old mansion house. Full of character. Our bedroom was enormous and very comfortable. The restaurant provided lovely food, especially breakfasts, served by really friendly and helpful staff for which Nothing was too much trouble. The Travelzoo deal offered fantastic value. Thankyou,a most enjoyable short break.Would loved to have stayed longer.
Other Comments
Only criticisms are that the enormous bedroom was quite cold, but additional convection heaters were provided, and the rooms hot water system was almost non existent,so we had to use the showers of the swimming pool.

88th birthday celebration. Also, arranged a dinner with relatives. All went well. They were blown away with the hotel, its location, history, facilities and especially our top notch bedroom with view

As well as us I think our relatives will be back, having seen the place. Just a suggestion. We almost missed the entrance and it was a while before we could turn round. Signs a couple of hundred yards before the entrance would be worth considering

All the staff were polite and friendly. The evening meal was delicious as was the lovely breakfast. The reception area is a little dark and it would have been nice to have had more pictures hanging on the walls in the rooms and restaurant.

We had a couple of issues with our room but they were dealt with promptly and professionally. Thank you all staff, and John the resort director, for making our stay so nice.

From the advert on travel zoo, we expected a four poster bed, & were disappointed that we had to pay an extra £20 per night to have one, but the receptionist very kindly up graded us, & we were put in the most amazing room I have ever seen, it made our stay exceptional instead of disappointing. Top marks for the hotel, not so good for travelzoo.
