Why We Love It

  • There's a heated indoor pool, a steam room and a gym
  • Canterbury, Dover and Folkestone are all less than 20 minutes' drive; Whitstable is 30 minutes from the hotel
  • "The 18-hole golf course is one of the finest in Kent" -- Today's Golfer

Set on a 268-acre estate a 20-minute drive from Canterbury, Broome Park Golf & Country Club occupies a 17th-century stately home once owned by Lord Kitchener.

The mansion house was built between 1635 and 1638, and was transformed into a country-house hotel in the 1930s.

The private estate has an 18-hole, par-72 golf course designed by renowned golf architect Donald Steel. In the mansion house, you'll find Callister's restaurant, which serves classic British dishes (many of the ingredients are sourced from producers in Kent) and daily afternoon tea. There's also a bar, a heated indoor pool, a steam room and a gym. Leisure facilities include squash, tennis and croquet courts, a snooker table and hot-air ballooning (additional fees apply).

Traditional Mansion House Rooms have views over the landscaped gardens and the golf course. There is free Wi-Fi throughout.

The hotel is 10 miles from Canterbury and there's a regular bus service into the city centre from a stop at the end of the drive. This partially walled city features the ruins of a Norman castle and one of the oldest cathedrals in England. The cute coastal town of Whitstable is a 30-minute drive away, and you can reach Dover and Folkestone within 20 minutes.

For some, its lack of a lift would be a problem, otherwise, excellent.

Pity there were not many guests about the hotel - weather could have been the problem having just had lot of snow.

It would have been helpful to have received an email from yourselves advising us that the hotel had been sold and most importantly the catering element had been taken in house a few days before we went there. There was very limited choice in both the bar and restaurant. However we could not fault the quality of the food. The staff were delightful and coped extremely well in the new regime. Our ratings above do reflect the above. Our comments about revisiting have regard to the fact that this hotel is somewhat tired, but it sounds as the new owners will be addressing these issues in the near future - there is great potential here.
