To find The Churchill Hotel on Connecticut Avenue, look for the elegant, cream-colored Beaux Arts building that could easily pass as one of the row’s many opulent apartment complexes. That was the idea when the landmark opened in 1906, with owners who wanted “the restful quietude and exclusiveness of a private residence" (Historic Hotels of America).

The lobby is bedecked with chandeliers and plaster paneling, while rooms are simpler in traditional tones, neither screamingly modern nor overtly antique. Since they were laid out a century ago, the room sizes tend to be more generous than D.C.’s average, some with three-sided bay windows, and all have free Wi-Fi.

The hotel is on the north side of Dupont Circle, one of Washington, D.C.’s most fashionable neighborhoods. There are streets and streets of trendy bars, gourmet bistros and art galleries, oftentimes filling the ground floor of a historic row house. Dupont Circle’s namesake park and metro station are less than a half-mile down the road.

The neighborhood to the west is Kalorama, a leafy, peaceful district that houses many of D.C.’s long-time lodgers in grand, colonial mansions. Many ambassadors call this neighborhood home, as it makes for a quick commute to the area’s collection of embassies.

Explore all of what the Capital City has to offer with top attractions like award-winning wineries and historic Potomac river cruises to fine-dining experiences just steps from The White House.

The hotel was fine. Nice low key. Room large, pleasant, updated. Nice staff. The problem was NOT this hotel but Travelzoo which botched the reservation by intended or unintended misrepresentation and now I must take my time to dispute the Churchbill credit card billing.
Other Comments
Travelzoo quoted a rate of $301.43 times three for the three nights. When we arrived, we indicated we would have the leave after two nights and notified Travelzoo. At the hotel we found the rate was $370 a night for each of the first two nights, and a different rate the last night. Travelzoo and the hotel insisted on charging us the higher rate for the first two nights. The hotel asserted the rate was average while also indicating others had complained about Travelzoo. The Travelzoo booking at no time indicated it was a different rate per night or this was an average rate NOw, I must dispute the billing with the Hotel, which is caught in the middle. If Travelzoo had indicated "average rate" or shown the different rates per day at the time of booking, that might have affected my decision or I might have booked. At this point, I think Travelzoo is open to a class action suit by not accurately describing the rate as "average" and/or indicating what rate it is each day.
