Overview

Less than an hour away from Montreal by car, this inn has a resort feel with an on-site restaurant, private beach access and spa. The historic hamlet of Knowlton is just a 10-minute drive around Lac Brome, with plenty of shopping and restaurant options and a newly established lavender farm. Other activities include skiing, golfing and touring vineyards.

Along with the beach, there is a seasonal outdoor pool and Spa Brumar offers a Jacuzzi, sauna and a hammam experience in the Eastern Townships. La Brise du Lac Restaurant is open for breakfast daily, while lunch is served Wednesday to Saturday. The evening meal is a specially crafted four- or six-course dinner, and is served Wednesday to Saturday. (We recommend making a reservation.) On Saturday nights, dine to the tune of live piano performances.

All the guest rooms have private balconies, DVD players and extra comforts like bathrobes -- some have fireplaces and the Prestige Rooms have views of the lake. Suites boast large soaker tubs, dining areas with simple kitchen staples like a toaster and a microwave. The two-floor Getaway Suite has a balcony overlooking the lake.

We were the only guests. There was confusion about breakfast. We were charged an exorbitant amount for 2 crepes, a little maple syrup and some fruit pieces with a mini croissant and pastries, juice and coffee. No menu or choice. I have contacted the administration who have kindly reimbursed us the breakfast charges.

The hospitality - Monsieur Stephane and his team are both welcoming and helpful. He is the epitome of a "host", ensuring your visit is pleasant. The hotel room had a King Bed, Fireplace as well as kitchen appliances, i.e. Micro, Small Frig and stove top. As I'm on a specific meal regimen, it made preparing breakfast and snacks convenient. The hotel is pet friendly and in a nice play on words they really are friendly to pets. A trip to the town of Lac Brome (Knowlton) is a worthy distraction. Many of Montreal's business elite must have residences here; these homes are spectacular.

Travelzoo guests get access to they spa. It includes a large and nicely crafted sauna and hot tub. But the hidden gem is the Hammen. (steam room) The eucalyptus scent is both medicinal and calming. Sleep comes easily following time spent here. The photos as shown in the TZ ad give the impression the hotels is quite close to the Bromont Ski hill. In fact it is an easy 15 minute drive and its location provides similar access to Owl's Head, Sutton Ski areas. My wife and I had an excellent time at the hotel and a few days skiing a Bromont. Its the perfect getaway spot to enjoy some spring skiing. I suspect it's magnificent once Lac Brome thaws. For winter, unless you're a skiing family, it might not be the first place I'd chose if I was travelling with little ones.

The spa was amazing. It was not busy so we could really take our time and enjoy the relaxation without feeling rushed because there were a lot of people there.

My only complaint would have to be with the restaurant. We were told the night we arrived that if we wanted to go to the restaurant we needed to make a reservation (for the next night, a Wednesday) so the morning of we went to make our reservation the lady at the front desk said the restaurant was not open and that the man from the night before should have known this (she then rolled her eyes about this man). We couldn't believe it because we were very happy with the service from this man, and how he was very accommodating. We found her quite rude. So we left for the day to go ski and made sure that we ate dinner upon our return to the hotel (which we didn't want to do because we had heard great reviews about the restaurant at the hotel). When we returned to the hotel we saw multiple different tables with people dining in the hotel restaurant so we were quite upset we had been told different information.

Upon arriving we were told that the hotel was without electricity due to an overnight wind storm that downed power lines. The staff offered a room with fireplace but we declined as we also wanted to make use of the spa facilities. We arranged to re-book in november. It was a long drive from Gatineau!
