Occupying a full block of the French Quarter, Royal Sonesta New Orleans is the only AAA 4-Diamond hotel on Rue Bourbon. The crystal-lit marble lobby guides visitors to three lush courtyards where "you might forget you're right on Bourbon Street, what with all the graciousness inside" (Frommer's).

Rooms overlook the pool, a courtyard or lively the French Quarter street, and many of the rooms also feature French doors opening to wrought-iron balconies. Sonesta Guest Rooms feature one queen, one king or two queen beds assigned upon arrival; guests can upgrade to Deluxe accomodations for a little more space; all Sonesta and Deluxe guest rooms feature pillowtop bedding, flat-panel TVs and Keurig coffee makers.

Bourbon Street Balcony rooms offer a signature New Orleans experience, though balcony rooms can be more raucous thanks to the revelry below. RClub rooms include a personal concierge and access to the seventh-floor Club Lounge for complimentary breakfast in the morning and cocktails in the evening.

The hotel is also home to several dining and entertainment venues, including Restaurant R'evolution and Bar R'evolution, praised as having "some of the most accomplished luxury-grade cooking in New Orleans" by the Times-Picayune. The Jazz Playhouse features live music every night of the week, while the Desire Oyster Bar serves up cocktails and fresh Gulf seafood, including chargrilled oysters.

From the press:
  • "Bourbon Street's swankiest property" --
  • "This grande dame of Bourbon Street ... houses a wealth of well-produced, higher-end New Orleans experiences" -- The Telegraph
  • "Restaurant Revolution is among the best fine dining experiences in the city, hotel or otherwise" -- Fodor's
  • One of the Top 10 Hotels in New Orleans -- Conde Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards 2017

Check-in was a breeze. Hotel honored our request for a quiet room.

The level of service in regards to housekeeping. For Royal Sonesta being a top class hotel I did not feel we got bang for our buck. On our first night, one bath towel was damaged, no bathmat was provided, cabinet for in room fridge was damaged. On the 2nd night, we had been out all day and was disappointed to return to our room between 5-6 pm to find that it had not been made yet! This is not what I expect from a highly rated hotel. The quality was just not up to standard.

We will request an interior room in the future. Street side rooms are too loud.

They do a good job maintaining the lobby and keeping things looking nice despite the craziness going on right outside their front door...Also, it was very convenient for "doing" Bourbon Street. I had my fill of it after one night though. It was a one and done experience for me.
Other Comments
I knew the hotel was right on Bourbon Street. I was not expecting the noise level in our room to be so loud. They had plexiglass over the windows, presumably to help with the noise, but it was still very loud and hard to sleep. The room was also tiny and had an unpleasant smell.

Location and its customer service

One of the best features I enjoy is that it is centrally located if you wanted to stay in the French Quarter, I felt safe, and treated with much respect as women traveling alone in NOLA. Best of all they have a great Jazz Club on the premises that play every night. I would definitely return to this property in the future.

The staff is great.
Other Comments
The room was dirty. Specifically the carpet was brown with dirt. The towels smelled bad. The conditioner dispenser was plugged up and never fixed during our 4 day stay. 30 years ago, it was a jewel in the Quarter. Now, it’s a Bourbon Street hotel.
