Haughton Hall Hotel & Leisure Club is an 18th-century property set in 35 acres of private woodlands and gardens in the Shropshire countryside. The Grade II-listed property is set on the outskirts of Shifnal, a market town four miles east of Telford.

Shrewsbury, known for being Charles Darwin's birth town, is a 30-minute drive away. It is home to timber-framed, black-and-white medieval buildings and Shrewsbury Castle. Other local attractions include The Iron Bridge & Tollhouse, the Royal Airforce Museum Cosford, Blists Hill Victorian Town and National Trust-run Attingham Park -- all within a 20-minute drive of the hotel. Walkers and cyclists can head to the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is 20 minutes' drive from the hotel.

There is a leisure club, with an indoor pool, a sauna, a steam room, an outdoor tennis court (open all year, weather permitting), a gym and a FootGolf course. Guests can eat in the Lounge Bar or Oliver's Restaurant, and afternoon tea is served daily from 1-4:30pm. There is also a fishing lake in the grounds.

Classic Rooms are contemporary and have free Wi-Fi.

Travelzoo tip: We've also negotiated an offer for an annual pass to the 10 Ironbridge Gorge Museums (15 minutes' drive from the hotel) for £15 per person, or £29 for two.

Enjoyed Most: The food, by Tom was fantastic. This young chef has real talent. Waiting staff were very good. Would come back for a meal, not for the hotel.
Other Comments: The room. Smelled stale, no heating, only one cup, towels smelled of bleach, mouldy in shower.

Enjoyed Most: Friendly staff.
Phil May 15, 2016 Hartley, United Kingdom
Enjoyed Most: Nice location for exploring the area. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food was good.
Other Comments: I was looking forward to using the indoor pool after hours of traipsing each day, but disappointed to find it was not solely for the use of hotel guests - private members' club and swimming lessons. I understand the need for the hotel to maximise the use of the pool but it would have been helpful to mention that in the hotel description, which gives prominence to the leisure facilities.
