De Vere Orchard Hotel is set in landscaped parkland within the grounds of The University of Nottingham and opposite East Midlands Conference Centre. The hotel uses state-of-the-art emission-reducing technology and is highly energy efficient.
It's 15 minutes' walk from Wollaton Hall -- a "fabulous" (Lonely Planet) Elizabethan mansion that houses the city's Natural History Museum. It also featured in the final instalment of Christopher Nolan's "Batman" films. Admission to this Grade I-listed country house is free. There is a walled botanical garden, which is open Sundays, and a deer park and Industrial Museum in the grounds. Highfields Park, a 20-minute walk from the hotel, has a boating lake, and bowling and croquet facilities.
The centre of Nottingham -- "a dynamic county capital with big-city aspirations, atmospheric historical sights, and a buzzing music and club scene", according to Lonely Planet -- is a 15-minute drive from the hotel. Here you can visit Nottingham Castle or the City of Caves -- a subterranean network of over 500 caves dating back to the Dark Ages. There is also the Galleries of Justice, a crime museum that occupies Nottingham's old courthouse and gaol.
De Vere Orchard Hotel has 202 bedrooms, all with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Bramleys Brasserie restaurant -- named after the Nottinghamshire Bramley apple -- serves modern British cuisine. There is also a bar, an outside terrace, two biodiverse roof gardens and a gym.
