Overview

The Llawnroc Hotel is a cosy boutique hotel in Gorran Haven on the south coast of Cornwall. It is on the Roseland Peninsula -- an area that is known for its "intimate wooded valleys, medieval field patterns and chamfered cliffs leading down to hidden coves" (The Daily Telegraph).

Gorran Haven is a small fishing village with white-washed cottages and a working harbour. The hotel is right in the centre of the village, a couple of minutes' walk from the sandy beach and the South West Coast Path. It is a 10-minute drive from the picturesque port of Mevagissey and the Lost Gardens of Heligan -- a "fascinating" forgotten Victorian garden (Rough Guides) that was only rediscovered in 1990. The biodomes at the Eden Project are 20 minutes' drive away.

The hotel's Gwineas bistro makes good use of local produce in its classic menu of burgers, sandwiches, and fish and chips. It occupies the site of an old inn, and the bar has live sports on TV and Cornish ales on tap, as well as the usual wines, lagers and cocktails. You can dine on the terrace in good weather. The hotel also has a cookery school, offering classes on foraging, butchery, pastry and bread making, and there's a day spa for facials, massages and manicures.

There are 18 boutique rooms, some with sea views and others with balconies. Each room has an iPod dock, a PlayStation and free Wi-Fi.

The location and view are spectacular. The rooms are modern, large and well designed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only downside really was the restaurant. It is trying to be something it is not.

Our room was lovely. The beds are really comfortable and the balcony made it perfect.

I think the restaurant meals are rather over priced. £30 for a steak meal is really too much.

The smell of stale chip fat from the kitchens that permeated all the hotel including the lobster I ordered - and sent back - on Monday night. Food in the bar was mediocre Shower impossible to turn on or off without the knob coming off An overall sense that the owners had high aspirations for designing a Hip hotel but the reality falls short of the dream.

my main course duck 2 slices. was overcooked, my wife was fine 2slices.i would not normally complain if it is not to bad, but a course costing £20 for 2 slices that is £40 per breast.when the girl took the order for dessert she said did we want coffee we said yes. the coffee came before the dessert the head waitress changed he duck .said it was over cooked and deduced cost of 2 glasses of wine. we agreed we would not eat there the following. but we were sure when we saw the menu, fish and chips,or burger.AT THEM PRICES.

Good breakfast menu and service. The staff are very pleasant. We had the fish and chips from the bar menu one evening, which were outstanding (and I've sampled many fish and chips!)
