Audleys Wood Hotel is a Victorian hunting lodge tucked away in the Hampshire countryside, at the end of a long, sweeping driveway.

Built around 1880, this Neo Gothic-style mansion is secluded within woodland, yet is just an 8-minute drive from Basingstoke town centre. Here you can visit Basing House and the Haymarket Theatre. Jane Austen's House Museum is a 20-minute drive from the hotel, and Grange Park Opera and Highclere Castle -- a filming location for Downton Abbey -- take 30 minutes by car. Stonehenge and Winchester Cathedral -- "one of southern England's most awe-inspiring buildings" (Lonely Planet) -- take 45 minutes, as do Southampton and Reading. Portsmouth is a 50-minute drive away.

The hotel's Simonds Room restaurant boasts two AA Rosettes and oak panelling said to be from Tewkesbury Abbey, and it is re-opening on 13 February, 2016. There is also the "contemporary" (The AA) Conservatory Restaurant which has views across the gardens. The lounge has a real log fire and ornate wood panelling, and serves traditional afternoon tea.

The hotel has 72 bedrooms, including Classic, Executive and Deluxe rooms, and there are two Suites with 4-poster beds. Wi-Fi is free, and a current copy of The Daily Telegraph is always kept in the lounge, in memory of the great statesmen and journalists who once visited Audleys Wood.
