The Essex Resort & Spa is a relaxed resort set on 18 acres of landscaped grounds in the New England countryside. It is in a scenic location between the Green Mountains and Lake Champlain, 20 minutes’ drive from downtown Burlington.

Two restaurants, serving pub food and sophisticated tasting menus that change nightly, make use of ingredients from the hotel’s own gardens and there’s a variety of cooking classes available. Breakfast is taken at The Tavern, where options include pancakes, homemade brioche and eggs cooked to order.

After an afternoon trying out the zip lines, rock climbing or exploring the estate and mountains with a guided tour, guests can unwind in the spa, where there’s an indoor pool and treatment rooms. An outdoor pool is open seasonally, and you can laze in the outdoor hot tub year round. There’s also free snowshoe rental, tennis and basketball courts, bikes for hire and regular bonfire evenings with s’mores. Golf is also available at the neighbouring executive course.

Some of the rooms have fireplaces and the family-friendly Studio rooms and suites come with mini kitchens (hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge). Upgrade to a Spa Suite for your own whirlpool tub. Pets can be accommodated in certain room types (extra charge applies) and are treated to homemade biscuits and takeaway gifts, including a collapsible water bowl.

There is a $15 per room, per night resort fee (plus tax), which covers Wi-Fi, parking and pool and fitness services.

Enjoyed Most: Not really....seemed like a fake resort.. no culinary school, just a bunch of people dressed up in chef outfits.... what happened to hospitality? Oh ya...we did like the donut holes at the check -in desk.
Other Comments: We were not able to get into our room until 4:15pm. Staff didn't really seem to care about our experience at the resort. Breakfast was disappointing... glad it was included in the travelzoo deal... would not have wanted to pay for it. Could not get a late check-out but another guest was checking in as we were leaving at 11:00am...go figure.

Enjoyed Most: Loved this resort! The food was AMAZING, staff were so nice and helpful and the resort was beautiful and very clean. We also enjoyed that it is centrally located, 2 out of our 3 days there were a light rain, so were weren't able to use the resorts bicycles to go on our bike ride that we planned. But with Burlington being a short 20 minute drive we spend one day there and the other day we went to Stowe (40 min drive). The nice thing about the drive to Stowe is that you passed the Ben and Jerrys Factory, Apple Cider Mill and Cabot Cheese outlet all on your way. So it was fun to stop and explore and eat yummy goodies!
Other Comments: We received breakfast vouchers through our TravelZoo booking and we were sooo happy we did. The breakfast at the Tavern was out of this world! Already planning on coming back here next summer. And this time we will use the outdoor amenities and the spa

Enjoyed Most: The staff was great. very pleasant, helpful.
Other Comments: Older Resort, needs some updating, but overall neat. We thought we would hang out at the resort some days but outdoor pool was just ok. Indoor pool all kids and I think a class or camp going on? Grounds just ok, not very welcoming, overgrown. We spent our days exploring instead which was fine.

Enjoyed Most: Incredible value and great food! We planned a visit to see our son and daughter in law to the Burlington,VT area. Once we saw this deal on TravelZoo; we decided to check out this very nice resort at an amazing rate, rather than opt for an inflatable mattress in their small apartment. Staff was great at check in, despite the fact that weather conditions made our 7 hour drive a 10 hour trip and we did not arrive until 1:30am. I think the package at check-in was even BETTER than when we booked the room.
Other Comments: Wonderful food! We received 2 days breakfast meal vouchers for coffee, juice, and an entree from the a la cart menu. This included prepaid tax and gratuity. We also received a voucher for Dinner (!) which we did not expect. Our schedule kept us from using it, but it included an appetizer, entree and dessert for each of us: A huge value in this "culinary resort" that prides itself an locally sourced ingredients and has a staff of talented chefs. While the in room fire place, bathroom jacuzzi tub, and kitchenette were nice; the outdoor spa was the best! (Yes, outdoor SPA in 20 degree weather). There is an indoor pool as well if you prefer not to brave the cold! We paid a small resort fee in addition to the room rate, but the meal vouchers more than made up for that charge, and the room was upgraded when we arrived.
