The sprawling 120-acre Melia Caribe Tropical feels “less like a hotel and more like its own little utopian town” (Oyster.com) and provides a shuttle to transport guests from one end of the property to the other. The mega-resort offers amenities and activities for guests of all ages. Three dedicated kids clubs offer supervised entertainment for babies, children and teens up to 14 years old. The Flintstones-themed facilities stay open late so parents can enjoy a romantic evening while their children experience the zip line, climbing wall, super jumper and arts and crafts. The hotel has 13 restaurants and 14 bars, including a la carte options such as Italian, Asian, and Caribbean cuisine.
Suites have free Wi-Fi, coffee makers and balconies or terraces. Guests can upgrade to larger suites with whirlpool tubs, butler services, dining rooms and access to a private restaurant, pool and stretch of sand where waiters offer drinks and cool towels. Adults-only suites and activities are also available to book.
Beyond the beach, guests have access to nine pools, eight tennis courts, a variety of water sports and unlimited golf at the Cocotal Golf Course & Country Club. Nature lovers don’t have to leave the property for an up-close look at exotic wildlife – the on-site preserve is home to sea turtles, peacocks and flamingos. Indoors, guests can pamper themselves at one of two spas, work out at the fitness center or try their luck at the casino. Open around the clock, the reception desk can arrange excursions, babysitters and car rentals for guests.
