Why We Love It

  • A $100 million top-to-toe renovation and restoration of a 1920s landmark
  • About a five-minute walk from Boston Common and Newbury Street shopping
  • Modern rooms have smart TVs and sleek, subway-tiled bathrooms, though space is sometimes tight
  • The clubby David Barton Gym covers 20,000 square feet of the ground floor with cycling and yoga studios and dozens of machines

Approaching a century of hosting guests like Katharine Hepburn and Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Boston Park Plaza used $100 million to refurbish and renovate every square inch of itself in 2016. The result is modern and refined in silvery monochromatics. There's a double-height lobby lounge and library, a 24-hour FedEx Office business center and a full-size outpost of David Barton Gym, which offers oodles of classes and thousands of square feet of fitness equipment in a clubby, moody space.

It's a pretty prime spot for sightseeing. Guests can stroll about five minutes to the southern edge of Boston Common or head five minutes in the other direction to reach Newbury Street and its big-brand stores or the performing arts center. It's a good sign when your neighbor is the Four Seasons, and even better when you're paying a fraction of that price.

It's a historic building, meaning some rooms can have quirky layouts and compact proportions, but the finishes are all high-end, including smart TVs that connect to phones for streaming, new custom-made mattresses and clean-lined bathrooms of porcelain and granite.

Enjoyed Most: Spacious room, nicely renovated

Enjoyed Most: The staff and ease of check in and check out.
Other Comments: If there had been a "kinda" button I would have clicked on it. The room was small and would have been inconvenient for two people with two suitcases who were doing a long stay than an overnight. Our room facing St. James Street was very noisy until very early in the morning with car horns. Would recommend with some reservations. This was not the best TravelZoo experience I've had.

Enjoyed Most: The room was fine, but we were made miserable by the conditions I have never had a worse experience at a hotel And to make matters worse, I rented two rooms for my family, and other member of the family rented five additional rooms based on my high regard of Travel Zoo Boy was I ever wrong
Other Comments: The hotel was all that you promised Only problem was that there was a convention of People in America from Uganda The people were great and very friendly Only Problem was that the hotel was truly overloaded Not able to handle the amount of people We were staying in Boston for a family Wedding We were late for Saturday evening dinner, because we were unable to get an elevator from the 12th floor for over a half hour...we missed the pick-up shuttle bus and were forced to take an Uber and still arrived late On Sunday we left super early for the Weeding at the State Room and made it on time (getting ready an hour early, so as to make it on time) The problem came when we returned to the hotel after the wedding, at about midnight, we were not able to get a drink at the bar because we were not able to get close, because of the mobs of people Then we waited over a half hour for the elevators, and decided to walk the twelve floors, because we just couldn't wait any longer

Other Comments: My wife and I would like say a big thank you to Fernando the doorman, who was courteous and very helpful. We still don't know how he knew my wife's name, when we never told him!!!!
