You don’t come across many traditional old world hotels like the Mayflower Park Hotel. In continuous operation since the late 1920s, the property retains many of its original furnishings like an ornate domed and gilded portico, an antique grandfather clock and Roaring '20s-style tile flooring.

The lobby and other common areas have been updated over the years with more modern furnishings that pair with the traditional details. Curved-legged occasional tables flank contemporary wing chairs covered in classic shades of burgundy and tan.

The only thing truly modern here is the free Wi-Fi. Rooms tend to be on the smaller side as befits hotels from this era and are decorated with bed-and-breakfast-style charm, including details like two poster carved headboards, flowered textiles and framed botanical prints. If your tastes run more toward sleek and modern, this will not be your cup of tea.

With a location in the heart of downtown Seattle, chances are you won’t be spending much time in the room. The hotel is connected by a walkway to the Westlake Center Mall. Popular shopping sites like Pacific Place mall and Nordstrom’s flagship outpost are just a five-minute walk away, giving you more time to spend looking and less time traveling.

For a classic Seattle experience, the famed fish-throwers of Pike Place Market are a seven-minute walk south of the hotel. Chances are high that you’ll be able to keep the energy up with a stop at any of Seattle’s famed coffee shops that dot the city.

It’s worth trying the lobby’s romantic Mediterranean-influenced restaurant, Andaluca, known for house specialities like paella and small tasting plates. There’s a special gluten-free menu for those who need it.
