"Good not great. It only takes a few employees who have very little interest in helping to sour the experience. Kim at the front desk was unfriendly, unhappy, and unprofessional. One word answers and acted very dismissive. Went to rent bikes and Brian told us we could not take the bikes out at 4PM because there was a 2 hour minimum....even though they were included each day in our package. There is clearly a culture of inflexibility. However, on the positive side, Emilio was exceptional. Extremely friendly and very anxious to please the customer. Very polite and very engaging. Hannah at the tennis center was wonderful and in additional to her tennis acumen, her people skills are remarkable. Stephanie at the Beach Grill was great. "

Overview

The Hawks Cay Resort is a massive, sprawling resort with the feel of a quaint waterfront village. It's complete with an 85-slip marina, six restaurants, an ice cream shop and a majorly impressive spa, making the fact that there isn't much to do immediately outside of the resort kind of moot.

Rooms are huge, which is great for families, who happen to be the most common type of guest. That's likely helped by the tons of kids activities: a kids club and teen lounge, a playground, a pirate ship pool, the incredible dolphin experience and a putting green. Adult activities include the lovely spa and a modern fitness center.

The only drawback here is the beach -- it's very small, and is actually more of a saltwater lagoon. However, the five pools more than make up for it.

From the press:
  • One of "9 Best Kid-Friendly Hotels in the Florida Keys" -- Oyster.com
  • "Huge rooms and restful spa" -- Fodor's

The pizza is listed under room service as $18 each. We ordered 2 so we figured $36 plus maybe $8 more for toppings, $10 for delivery and $6 for tax. We paid $75 for 2 pizzas. That is OUTRGEOUS in any country at any resort.

The grounds and activity areas were wonderful for my 8-yr-old grandson.

The promo included two free breakfast buffets. However, the staff presented bills for $50 anyway and had to wait for corrections. One day, I absent mindedly signed the check and spent about 45 min. at checkout to get the charge removed. Thanks to staff member Andrew, who finally understood how to credit the charge. All three checkout lines were held up by people trying to correct overcharges. Also, the bedrooms were so small, it was hard to maneuver. Supplies for a 2 BR condo were scant. The telephone didn't work the entire weekend. WiFi was so weak, I couldn't answer emails. The mattress on the hideabed in the living room was old and worn, but maintenance did bring another mattress to put on top for the two grandchildren. Cell phone service was sketchy. The restaurants were very expensive for families, on top of the room prices which came out to $450/day including tax and resort fees.

Yes, all amenities and staff were very nice. Would not go back for fear of a bad pool experience again.

Looked forward to adult's only Tranquility pool area but could not enjoy the pool-much too cold. No one used the pool. Temperature at 75 not 86 as the all ages pool. The most enjoyable part of any stay in the keys is the water experience and we were not afforded that experience.

The pools and the lagoon. Quiet moments and extreme beauty. The hawks flying overhead and hearing and seeing the dolphins.

The room was lovely, quite comfortable. I love the shower stall! The fact that the resort is on its own key was really nice.

Be sure to keep an eye on the resort charges, I was overcharged during the booking process and again during checkout. After having to explain the Tzoo package details, I was able to get this straightened out.

We notcied a lot of nice updates since our last visit a year or two ago.

We've visited Hawks Cay a number of times and on our last visit weren't sure we'd go back. The resort was starting to seem a little worn and customer service had gone downhill. Also, the entire hotel and pool seemed over crowded. We noticed a big difference this year with the wrist difference, customer service and resort updates. It was a very pleasant surprise! Also, we loved the fact that the new restaurant was open and our experience there was fantastic!

Not very much wait staff around the tranquility pool area. I guess due to the small crowd. Sunset cruise cancelled on us.

Beautiful resort. Food was just ok. Nothing amazing. Very expensive. Seemed like they were understaffed. The very few people that worked there were very friendly however they were under staffed. Service would have been better if they have more staff
