Stepping into the ornate lobby at the Roosevelt (named for Teddy) is a chance to step back in time to the magnificence of New York City during the Jazz Age. Renovated to its original 1924 grandeur, the two-story lobby of the "Grand Dame of Madison Avenue" features marble columns, crystal chandeliers and cushy couches.

Guy Lombardo and his orchestra played their first show at the Roosevelt in 1929, and it was at the Roosevelt Grill that they first broadcast what would become a New Year’s Eve tradition, “Auld Lang Syne.” The hotel has also appeared in many familiar films, including "Wall Street," "The French Connection" and "Maid in Manhattan."

Amenities at The Roosevelt, however, are of the 21st century, including a business lounge, fitness center, Wi-Fi and high-end shops. Classically appointed guest rooms include flat-screen HD TVs, premium bedding and luxury bath products.

The hotel has two restaurants and two bars: Head to the Roosevelt Grill for breakfast or The Madison Club Lounge for lunch or dinner, followed by a game of pool in the neighboring Billiards Room. Vander Bar serves gastropub fare and specialty cocktails, while the rooftop lounge, Mad46, serves cocktails and small bites under the city lights from May-October.

Outside the front door, Grand Central Terminal is around the corner (first-time visitors should make a point to check out the ceiling mural in the main terminal), and both the Empire State Building and Times Square are less than a 15-minute walk away.

From the press:
  • "Glamorous Midtown Manhattan retreat conjures images of cigar-and-champagne toasts” -- Conde Nast Traveler
  • "The rooftop lounge serves themed cocktails including a 'Teddy-tini' -- Fodor’s
  • "Guests of the Roosevelt are never far from the city's most popular attractions" -- USA Today

Other Comments: Clara on the front desk when we booked in was very rude and unhelpful. we gave her the name of the booking and couldn't find us on the bookings even though the hotel had already took the money out of our account. I had to email from my computer the booking and was rude. Had she asked us how to spell our names she would of found our booking straight away. They put us in rooms around the corner even though we had a 12 year old son with us. We also had to wait a long time for the lifts, sometimes for 15 minutes, ended up using the stairwell to the 6th floor.

Other Comments: Mattresses very old and not comfortable. Room smelled bad. Elevators were a joke -- only half of the 6 were working.
