The Rutland Arms Hotel is a Georgian property that was built in 1804. It's located in Bakewell, a busy market town in the Peak District National Park, and if you stay here you'll be visiting a property that's steeped in both history and tradition. Not only is The Rutland Arms Hotel the reported birthplace of the Bakewell pudding -- the thing that Bakewell is "probably best known for", according to Lonely Planet -- butit's also hosted the likes of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, JMW Turner and Lord Byron.

This stone-built property is reportedly where Jane Austen stayed while writing "Pride and Prejudice", and Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House, which feature in the 2005 film adaptation of the novel, are both within a 15-minute drive of the hotel.

Bakewell is "ringed by famous walking trails" (Lonely Planet), so it's a great base for those that appreciate the great outdoors. There's a 3.5-mile circular route along the Monsal Trail to Hassop Station, returning across fields to Bakewell. The spa town of Buxton and Matlock, Derbyshire's county town, are a 20-minute drive away.

The hotel's Square Restaurant serves locally sourced produce and you can expect to find chicken, salmon and cheeses on the menu. All bedrooms feature country-style furnishings, a television, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. There's free Wi-Fi throughout.

Only fault was couldn't get a consistent temperature on the shower! But a bath made a lovely, cosy change! It was rather cold outside when we stayed!

It would have been nice to have been offered a free glass of dine, particularly as I didn't spend the £25 allowed for dinner, I asked but was told I couldn't spend the difference on wine. I thought this was a tad mean.

On arrival at the hotel i was told that my details hadn't been forwarded to the hotel, which was a pain as i hadn't bought the card i used with me and only had cash spend for the weekend, and is also quite embarrassing i may add!! this resulted in me having to get a picture of my card from home after a 2 hour wait and using that which isn't really up to standard! i use travel zoo quite a bit and it is not something i like to complain about!
