Overview

Relish in Venice -- “a city unlike any other” (Fodor’s) -- with a stay directly on the famed Grand Canal. Just a five-minute stroll from the train station, the Carlton Hotel sits postcard ready among the charming pastel buildings flanking the sea.

Traditional 18th-century Venetian design awaits inside, where odes to the city in the form of Murano glass chandeliers, ornate furnishings and rich damask fabric wall coverings transport you to yesteryear. That said, expect traditional -- not luxe.

Guests can savor fresh, authentic Venetian fare at the on-site La Cupola restaurant or opt for afternoon aperitifs at the casual Carlton Cafe. For a real treat, head up to the rooftop terrace where a cozy scene and panoramic city views await (open seasonally).

St. Mark’s Square is a 25-minute stroll from the door or a quick and ever so quintessentially Venice canal boat ride away.

Enjoyed Most: The 4th floor bar and restaurant. The head man was wonderful greeted everyone when he knew we were celebrating our wedding anniversary he brought a beautifully presented cake complete with candle it was a lovely surprise.
Other Comments: We had a lovely room on the 1st floor overlooking the grand canal perfect.

Enjoyed Most: Hotel reception were polite. Breakfast was okay thing special for the price paid but servers were all very nice. Hotel location very convenient for pharmacy, restaurants, shopping and easy to get to St Mark's square.
Other Comments: I search for 3 people occupancy under Travelzoo and booked a superior room as it was pulled out under this search. On arrival I was told room fits 2 and I must pay additional for breakfast and sleep 3 on one bed or upgrade to a bigger room with an extra bed..... I thought I booked the superior with canal view three for the price of three people occupancy. The room was very outdated nothing like the photo shown on the revel zoo website or hotel website. Can hardly squeeze our way into bathroom and not to mention the shower and we are all slim. When told staff a spider crawling on the ceiling, instead of vacuuming it, he took a can of "chemical" sprayed it so spider fell down and the staff fled the room when he sees the spider falling. No intention to pick it up and who knows what chemical he was using and if that was bad for us. The spider fled because we could not locate it! It was 11:00 pm so we could not open windows to ventilate as we could end up with mosquito problem. This hotel is not a 4- star.
