The Abbey Hotel in Great Malvern -- with its striking Virginia creeper-clad façade -- dates back to 1848. A modern extension has not diminished the charm of this property at the foot of the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

With views of the Vale of Evesham, the Severn Valley and the Cotswolds, the hotel is an excellent base for hikers looking to access the area's many walking trails. Eastnor Castle, Three Choirs Vineyard and Westons Cider Mill are all within 30 minutes' drive. Petrolheads should make time for a tour of the Morgan Motor Company, which has manufactured sports cars locally for the past 100 years.

A buffet breakfast is available each morning and afternoon tea is served in the lounge bar. The Priory View Restaurant serves modern British fare for lunch and dinner.

The comfortable bedrooms are a decent size and have views over the pretty gardens, Great Malvern Priory or the countryside beyond. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and tea- and coffee-making facilities come as standard. Some rooms can accommodate up to two children on a sofa bed, and well-behaved pets can stay in some rooms (extra charges apply on check-in; request upon booking).

Staff at the Abbey Hotel were so helpful directing us to places we would never have found on our own. Especially Dalila on the Reception Area nothing was too much trouble. The perfect Retreat

The food in the restaurant. Normally on a half board basis you have a special menu, but at the Abbey we could choose from the a la cartel menu, which was great and very tasty.

Very pleasant homely atmosphere ...felt immediately relaxed there. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

The great majority of rooms are dog friendly which we did not appreciate from their web site. We were hoping for a non pet friendly room. This however was not possible as our booking was for an executive room and our only option was to accept a downgraded room which we did not want to do. Apparently only 10% of their rooms are pet free.

First class hotel, highest marks for staff friendliness and smart appearance, lovely and clean throughout, food outstanding. Building has lots of character with steps up and down from staircase to rooms, a bit like a huge Tardis.

Really enjoyed our stay. The evening meal was served promptly. The service was great both in the Bar and Restaurant! The room was comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was good but a bigger variety of bread would be nice rather than just sliced brown/white to toast.

The Travelzoo Offer was excellent, making our trip very good value for money at this 4 Star Hotel. The location is close to shops, restaurants and the Malvern Hills. Perfect for anyone wanting a relaxing break with good food and service. I only hope there are more of the same offers for this hotel in the future, because I will return.

We booked two nights at this hotel . Everything was perfect nice room ,nice food and polite staff. Unfortunately on day two whilst out for the day at 12 noon the hotel called to request we return to the hotel as they needed our room for somebody who had restricted access. We explained we were out for the day but said we would try to return early afternoon. We curtailed our tour to make the day shorter but at 1510 hours the hotel rang again to say how much longer were we going to be as they needed the room as soon as possible. At this point we ended our day out and returned to the hotel. We do feel this affected our outing in the Malverns and feel that in future Travelzoo or the hotel should ensure someone booked for 2 nights retain the same room. We did make it perfectly clear when booking in that we were at the hotel for 2 consecutive night albeit we had 2 seperate bookings. The receptionist fully understood this as she booked us for dinner at the same time on both nights.
