The façade of The Abbey Hotel in Great Malvern dates back to 1848. A modern extension since has not diminished the charm of this property, set at the foot of the Malvern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

With views over the Vale of Evesham, the Severn Valley and the Cotswolds, the hotel is in an excellent spot for exploring the region -- particularly for hikers looking to access one of the area's many walking trails. Within a 30-minute drive is Eastnor Castle, Three Choirs Vineyard and the Weston Cider Mill. Petrolheads should also make time to visit the Morgan Motor Company, which has manufactured the sports cars locally for the past 100 years.

A breakfast buffet is available each morning, while the lounge bar offers afternoon tea. The Priory View Restaurant serves lunch and dinner -- expect modern British fare such as wild mushroom and asparagus risotto, grilled fillet of red mullet, and slow braised belly of pork.

The bedrooms are a decent size and comfortable, with views over the pretty gardens, Great Malvern Priory or countryside beyond. Wi-Fi is free throughout and tea- and coffee-making facilities come as standard. Some rooms can accommodate up to two children on a sofa bed, and well-behaved pets (extra charges apply, request upon booking).

Enjoyed Most: Location was very good and staff were helpful although under pressure. Bar prices were reasonable.
Other Comments: For a superior room the accommodation was poor, bathroom fittings were of extremely poor quality. Dining room was taken over by a coach party who held a quiz after their meal with no regards to other diners. There also seemed to be a lack of staff especially in the bar area in the evenings, resulting in a longer than reasonable wait to be served.

Enjoyed Most: Location was ideal for going to the theatre just down the road. Food and service was good and luckily bedroom had an electric fan supplied as it was very hot/humid weather for the time of year.
Other Comments: Very large hotel which attracts coach parties ehich might not suit some!!
