Some of the top places visitors want to see on a trip to New Orleans can be found within a few blocks of the Bourbon Orleans Hotel. Right in the middle of the French Quarter, the hotel is sandwiched between Bourbon Street and Royal Street. The former lights up with endless, electric nightlife; the latter is a lower-key shopping road, selling antiques, jewelry and other local specialties.

The hotel emerged in 2011 from a multimillion-dollar renovation that saw fresh paint splashed on its historic colonnade and balconies, and multi-tier chandeliers polished up in its Belle Epoque-style lobby, where potted palms lead the way past oversize arched windows and a grand piano.

Guest rooms mix traditional wood furnishings with lurid accents of red and black. Bathrooms are particularly sleek, “with a natty use of stripes and brocades” (Frommer’s). All rooms come with free Wi-Fi, and face either an inner courtyard or Bourbon Street -- a situation to keep in mind for those sensitive to street sounds.

A heated, outdoor, saltwater pool is carved into the courtyard, surrounded by lounge chairs and more potted palms. Head out to the street -- after quaffing the free welcome beverage served to all guests in the lobby bar -- two blocks away to reach leafy Jackson Square, the waterfront and the soaring spires of the Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Louis.

Enjoyed Most: The decor and the bar/breakfast staff
Other Comments: The Travelzoo deal I booked specifically mentioned that I would get a welcome champagne bottle, room upgrade (if available), two american breakfasts, and early check-in/late check out. All I really cared about was the breakfast and champagne. The front desk clerk (a tall gentleman) was so rude when I checked in, telling me he saw no proof of the deal. I showed him the travelzoo extras page, and he wouldn't believe me. I don't feel that confident to book through travelzoo anymore, as I don't want to book a hotel specifically because I want the extras (breakfast is an important selling point to me), only to find out the hotel won't honor them. I didn't get my champagne, or even an equivalent, but the manager begrudgingly gave me a voucher for breakfast. Either travelzoo needs to work on their communication of deals with the hotel better, or vice-versa. I didn't like having to debate for 15 minutes with front desk just to get what I paid for.

Enjoyed Most: The location of the hotel and the friendly, helpful staff.
Other Comments: We arrived to our room to find a wonderful and delicious cheese and fruit tray. This also included bottled mineral water. This may have been a substitute for the champagne and for us this was a better choice. Didn't even ask for the champagne!

Enjoyed Most: The spacious room and the $100 worth of vouchers for use at the hotel restaurant.
Other Comments: Beautiful hotel, conveniently located between Bourbon St and Jackson Square. The classy hotel had a beautiful bar and good restaurant and a mimosa and bloody mary bar in the lobby each morning!

Enjoyed Most: Absolutely perfect location in the French Quarter close to all of the attractions. Right off of Bourbon Street but just far enough away from the noise. Walkable to everything. The service was fantastic, and the extras we received through Travelzoo were really valuable... They gave us two flexible $50 F&B credits and two beverage vouchers at the bar instead of American breakfast and a bottle of bubbly, but what we got was actually better than what we were supposed to receive. :)

Enjoyed Most: We arrived at 6 am. Due to our Travelzoo booking which allowed early check in, we were able to get into the room and sleep off our jet lag.
Other Comments: The location is wonderfully central to the French Quarter.
