Overview

Ranked one of the friendliest cities in the U.S. by readers of Conde Nast Traveler since 2013, Charleston is also a haven for food lovers and rated as one of America's best food cities by the Washington Post. The Mills House Wyndham Grand Hotel, built in 1853, is well positioned for guests who want to explore on foot, with a location on the corner of Queen Street and Meeting Street, steps from the main shopping stretch on King Street and minutes from Museum Mile.

The pink facade of the building is quintessential Charleston: bright but subtle with intricate details. Inside the hotel, the interiors are decked out in lavish chandeliers, glazed marble floors, antique-style furnishings and conversation-provoking artwork. Even with all the glamorous details, the hotel and its staff maintain a friendly and approachable attitude.

The aesthetically pleasing decor in the lobby flows into the guest rooms and beds are extremely comfortable. Rooms tend to be on the smaller side at 300 square feet, but they're no smaller than other comparable hotels. Complimentary water bottles are provided in guest rooms.

The courtyard and pool are unique to the hotel, so be sure to take advantage of them. The pool is seasonal but still makes a great place to sit and read in the winter.

Travelzoo Tip: Husk and 82 Queen are top-notch restaurants; they also happen to be across the street from the hotel.

The hotel has a wonderful location and great food and service. The rooms are very tired. Our room had a cracked water faucet, some mold on the tub rim and lots of cracks in the ceiling. It looked dinghy. It was $204.00 a night thought for that price it would be a bit nicer in the room. That is important to us. I had to answer would I recommend this hotel? Yes if your not fussy with the tired in need of a room overhaul.

Our package came with a historic tour by Bulldog tours and it was wonderful! The room was a little smaller than expected and the sliding door to the bathroom did not close completely but overall the hotel was great.
