Opened in December 2015, this new downtown boutique hotel gives guests a front-row seat for Austin’s world-famous live music scene. Nestled in the Historic Rainey Street District, steps away from the area's many bungalows-turned-bars, Hotel Van Zandt offers stunning views of Lady Bird Lake and the Austin skyline.

Designed with sophisticated clean lines and a warm color palette, the hotel features worn-leather couches, chandeliers crafted from musical instruments and a wood-burning fireplace that keep the common areas comfortable and inviting. Rooms offer views of downtown Austin or Lady Bird Lake and are decorated with dark woods, crisp white linens and brushed bronzes. Tech-savvy rooms keep travelers connected with free Wi-Fi and Bluetooth speakers.

Like other Kimpton properties, the Hotel Van Zandt is known for “over-the-top pet friendliness,” says Southern Living. Man’s best friend is invited to stay at the hotel, no matter the size, breed or weight. Furry guests are welcomed with a bed, bowls, and the concierge-curated list of nearby pet-friendly restaurants, parks and groomers.

Soak up the Texas sun from a poolside cabana looking out over Lady Bird Lake. The Pool Deck serves up cocktails, craft brews, pressed juices and local fare for brunch and lunch. After the sun goes down, the party heats up with live music 365 days of the year at Geraldine’s. The fourth-floor space affords almost panoramic views of the city and is oriented around a stage, transforming the room from grown-up to “rowdy,” with nightly performances from local artists (Austin Chronicle).

No matter the travel itinerary, Hotel Van Zandt makes it easy to stay healthy while away from home. The hotel’s fitness center is open 24 hours a day, each room is equipped with a free yoga mat, and public bikes are available at the front desk.

From the press:
  • "It may have a bit of the aura of Kutsher's Country Club, but it’s at the moment when Patrick Swayze jumps off the stage" -- The Austin Chronicle of Geraldine's

Upon arriving in the pouring rain and unsuccessfully awaiting assistance from the valet staff to receive our car and bags, we assisted ourselves and proceeded to the bellman stand where a gentleman with an umbrella finally approached to offer coverage from the rain. We also experienced the same lack of responsiveness by the outside valet attendants on two more occasions, when looking for a cab to go out on the town, and also the next morning when our call to the valet at check out time went unanswered. We had to rely on the front desk attendant for assistance on each occasion. The lack of responsiveness of the valet staff would be somewhat more acceptable if they were busy, but that was not the case and it left us feeling frustrated with the hotel overall.

We were offered drinks at check-in. Wine/beer offered in afternoon in large gathering area was nice, plus coffee in the morning. They had water available in lobby all the time. Location was good. Could walk to most places downtown. Bed was comfortable and black out curtains were a nice touch. Great sunset view from roof top bar.

Not the type of atmosphere we enjoyed for a relaxing vacation. Very busy and loud. The walls between rooms and hall were paper thin. We had trouble with check-in and had to call and go down to the desk to get refrigerator key and pool access passes. Plus, the fridge was too full of mini bar items for purchase. We didn't have room for our own things. No coffee maker in room. Valet took long time to get car and that was our only option for parking. Plus, our final bill had a higher price for the valet parking than was published on the website and initial reservation.. Pool area was too busy and located next to fine dining restaurant. Not very intimate with public viewing.

Beautiful rooftop pool, great location, delicious food at Geraldine's.

In room dining is not worth the plethora of service charges. There's often no one available to answer the phone to place an order. Just go downstairs to get a coffee or snack from the cafe.
